Embracing Fashion as a Plus Size Women

Learning to Embrace Plus Size Fashion to Success

Christine Cadena
For many women, the fashion and beauty industry has taught us how to be thin and the value of a slim figure. While it is not a debate that a healthy body is usually one that is within a moderate weight, there are women who continue to live as a plus size woman and enjoy every aspect of it.

As a plus size woman, it is important to embrace the beauty of who you are. Creating a positive self image, at any size, is simple with a few techniques. Using body language, smiling often and wearing trendy clothing fit to your body type, will go a long way in obtaining the respect and recognition deserving of a person with a beautiful personality, regardless of weight.

While we continue to live in a society where appearance matters, it is important for the plus size woman to embrace her beauty and accent her physical features in addition to her personality features. Trendy clothes, in proper fit to your body type, will provide a great improvement in not only the way you feel but also in the way others perceive you.

In addition to an improved fashion appeal, plus size women can also improve their personal bodily image through simply body language changes. Focusing on stature, working to stand straight and tall, walking with intent and speaking clearly and confidently, are all measures the plus size women can pursue to improve bodily image.

Using fashion trends and welcoming body language, plus size women send a message of confidence and grace. From this, those in our society who generally have thoughts of ill will toward plus size women will begin to create a different impression.

However, this is not to say that plus size women need approval by society. They absolutely do not. With many fashion designers catering to the plus size women, women of all sizes begin to feel more confident in who they are without regard to the acceptance of society. Be that woman. Strive to live your life on your terms and not on the terms of others. Work to reduce your need to constantly feel the need for approval by your peers. You do not have to please everyone; only please yourself.

If, however, you are a plus size woman and seek to lose weight, be sure to do it in an environment where you are offered support without criticism. Making weight loss and fitness a joint venture will go along way in supporting you through the process while avoiding criticism with your not-so-successful attempts. Remember, being a plus size woman is not a curse. Acquiring a healthy weight, for your body type, is a 50/50 battle with your mind. If you are comfortable with whom you are, mentally, you'll find great satisfaction in your activities of daily living at any weight.

Wonderful article. What needs to be mentioned, though, is that plus sized women need to be supported in their attempts to look beautiful. This means that, hopefully, they can avoid "friends" and family members who are intent on tearing them down. This can be a whole process in itself.
