As the product began to catch and the commercial was running more and more it hit me that I needed the Emery Cat. Well, I needed something like the Emery Cat because I was having some issues with my cats. Like most cat owners my furniture had taken a beating. It's natural for cats to scratch and stretch and most seem drawn to furniture because the upholstery allows them to dig in and enjoy themselves.
I'm sure I'm not the only one to invest in really ugly scratching posts that don't seem to work. It seems that the cats would like the carpet covered posts but I've never known anyone who really claims to have had much success. My cats never took to their scratching posts no matter what I tried. Since the ones I happen to find were pretty unsightly I had to keep them in back rooms where I thought the cats would hang out but they didn't go for it. My cats, even though fiercely independent, tend to go where the action is and that means the living room. The scratching post have been too big and ugly to have in the living room so I pretty much gave up.
So the Emery Cat offered a solution. First, it's small so it won't take up precious indoor real estate. Next, this honeycomb design they mention for the scratching surface will actually file their claws down. I can't tell you how cool this is. I've tried to trim their claws myself and it's been a bit of a bloody painful mess for all of us. I don't take my cats for grooming so the only time they get their claws trimmed is at the vet and it's pricey. So if the cats like the Emery Cat and use it enough to file their claws down, then they will do less damage to the furniture if they still decide they can't live without it. I couldn't resist the upside, so I decided to buy Emery Cat.
To Buy Emery Cat was a total of just under $28 with the shipping and handling and even though I don't understand shipping and handling, the Emery Cat was cheaper than any scratching post I had seen in the pet store. It took less than two weeks to arrive and I was ready to test it out.
I had forgotten that it was infused with cat nip and that's probably the most brilliant part. My cats took to it immediately. At first they rolled around on it but soon learn to stretch and scratch. I felt the scratching board was a little flimsy but it seemed to support the cats and it didn't move much when they were in the attack mode.
They didn't care much for the little furry toy attached to the Emery Cat but I certainly didn't care. My concern was my furniture and would the Emery Cat work. To my surprise, I found my cats going back to the Emery Cat often. I believe the cat nip lured them in and help them develop the habit of using Emery Cat as their scratching board instead of the furniture.
I cannot really substantiate if their claws are much shorter but I can say they are less interested in my couch and door frames. They still spend a few moments stretching out at the couch but they don't seem to dig the claws in as much. When they do, they seem do stay for a shorter period of time. It's almost like they are saying "been there, done that" and that's exactly what I needed.
My review of the Emery Cat is a good one. It's seemed to work for me, at least for now. I don't know if you can find Emery Cat in stores but it's readily available online if you want to try it out. As with any product, I would read reviews and testimonials before you buy. Look for the positives and negatives from people who've tried it out before.

new page began to load. And load...and continued to load. After a half an hour I closed the browser tab and decided I would try again at a later date.
Within a few minutes I received an email notifying my order was processed and it would take 3 to 4 weeks for the delivery. It didn't say what the total was or what the name of the company would be for the charge.
This all took place at about 11pm so I decided I would call first thing in the morning. The email I received had their number and hours of operation.
Next day I called about an hour after their customer service time started. I told the man that answered that I had made the order the night before and I wanted to cancel. His reply was the order had already been shipped and couldn't be cancelled. But he COULD reduce the cost by $10 for my inconvenience. I told him to forget it.
I called my bank. There had been a hold placed on the amount for the order but I could reject the charge by going to the bank and signing a document saying
get the second at the discounted price (just postage and handling). If it didn't work for one of the cats in question it could be given to one of the other relatives in question. I figured I had a 2 out of 3 chance for the product being used.
I went to the Emery Cat website and began the ordering process. I am on dial up so while pages were loading I was reading reviews regarding the Emery Cat Board.
When the webpage requested a quantity I put 2. One at regular price and one at the discounted price. The next webpage that loaded asked me if I would like the discounted Emery Board. Oops, I goofed. Go back one screen on Internet Explorer. Same screen loaded. Closed the browser and went back to the web page to start over. The page loaded back to the special offer page.
At this point I decided there would probably be a confirmation page and I could modify my order there. I selected that I did NOT want the doubled order. The page did nothing. I selected that I DID want the double order and a
I will start off saying from the reviews I read about the Emery Cat Board I wasn't sold but I wasn't totally turned off either. Most of the reviews were either the cats loved it and it did as advertised OR the cats didn't give it a second look and therefore was a waste of money.
The OTHER types of reviews I read about were concerning the company itself. Many people complained about being charged more than they originally thought it would cost them. Many times this was due to the fact that (like many other TV advertisements) they were charged shipping and handling twice when the second free Emery Board was requested. But on some occasions this wasn't the complain regarding the company.
There are MANY sites that offer areas to critique the Emery Cat Board. I recommend you read a few of them.
Here is my review.
I was going to order one of the Emery Cat Boards and give it to my sister as a gift. I considered this for my neice and my brother as well. So my thought was...I'll order one and
I bought one at Bed Bath & Beyond thinking my younger cats would have fun...wrong...all they wanted to do is play with the feather that came with it. They have not even scratched their paws on it. I am taking it back tomorrow.
I bought one at Walgreen's and so far it just sets there. They won't scratch on it. One just kind of used it for a head rest. They do scratch on the carpeted post and the cardboard ones. Sorry I got it to clutter up.
I ordered it, received it (took a while) replaced my old card-board one with the new one, put the catnip onn it and my two cats looked at it, then me as if to say...we are not touching it. The catnip remains there and they do not use it at all. Not worth the $$ and effort to get. Sadly, it was a waste of my money. Maybe I'll try to sell it on ebay.
Thanks all for stearing me clear. I saw a commercial and was thinking about it for my 4 cats, but if it's sluffing off like those darn cardboard things I don't want it. thanks again!!
I was given one of these as a gift, and could not figure out how a cat could possibly scratch their nails without damaging their paws. I threw it out. I would NOT recommend this product. Get a scratching pole to keep them off the furniture. One of my cats likes carpet, the other likes jute.
is no one the slightest bit concerned that this stuff is like beach sand and it is all over everything in the box? It scratches my hands--you know cats will get this on their feet and lick it off and what if they get it in their eyes? What is this stuff? Is it non-toxic? (how can it be?) and the catnip says right on it-do not ingest! how do you keep a cat from not eating it? and the bell on the feather toy is small enough to swallow and attached by just a piece of elastic! did anyone with cats really design this? not to mention that I paid nearly $50 all told and it is as flimsy as the tray in a candy box! what a rip off and I don't see how it can possibly be safe.
