Emma Watson's Most Memorable Scenes as Hermione Granger

Kyra Lennon
Emma Watson first shot to fame as Hermione Granger in the "Harry Potter" movies. At the age of ten, Emma Watson began making waves in the film industry when she won high praise for her performance in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". Since then her career has gone from strength to strength. Although she has appeared in other movies and is also a successful model and designer, she will probably always be best known as Harry Potter's know-it-all best friend. As Hermione Granger, Emma Watson has had many fine moments on the big screen. Here is a look at some of her best scenes in the "Harry Potter" movies.

Dancing with Harry ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One")

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One" is a movie charged with emotion. After Ron leaves the trio when he becomes disheartened with the lack of progress on finding the Horcruxes, Hermione is heartbroken. She tries her best to keep her spirits up but Harry can see through her act. In an attempt to cheer her up, he takes her hands and encourages her to dance with him.

It sounds like too simple a scene to list as one of Emma Watson's most memorable. But it was so beautifully done that it stood out as one of the most touching scenes in the entire movie. Emma Watson shone throughout "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One" but it was the raw emotion injected into this scene that made it one of her finest movie moments in the "Harry Potter" series.

Meeting Grawp ("Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix")

When Hagrid returns to Hogwarts after a mysterious absence, Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione are eager to find out where he has been. Hagrid then takes the trio into the Forbidden Forest to meet his half-brother, Grawp who is twice the size of Hagrid! Grawp takes quite a shine to Hermione and lifts her up in the air in his giant hands, causing her to wonder if she will ever return to the ground!

This was a great comedy moment for Emma Watson. She remained perfectly in character as bookish Hermione and her chemistry with Rupert Grint was shown off superbly as he became irrationally jealous of Grawp's interest in her. It was funny to see her stamping her authority on a giant instead of Harry and Ron!

Punching Draco Malfoy ("Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban")

Undoubtedly one of the most memorable scenes in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" is the one where Hermione punches Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) in the face. Although we don't condone violence, Draco Malfoy was once one of the top villains in the series. In the "Prisoner of Azkaban" his evil streak was out in full force when he faked an attack by Buckbeak the Hippogriff, causing one of Hagrid's (Robbie Coltrane) favourite magical creatures to be executed.

Emma Watson's performance in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" was arguably one of her best ever. Under the direction of Alfonso Cuaron, Watson's acting seemed to thrive, reaching new levels of brilliance. Although her acting is always solid, her performance in the "Prisoner of Azkaban" has only been bettered recently in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One".

The Yule Ball ("Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire")

When Hermione reveals she has a date to the Hogwarts Yule Ball, speculation begins about who it will be. However, the revelation of her partner is far overshadowed when a shy Hermione peers around the corner at the top of the stairs to the scene below. As she steps out into full view of the other students, gasps of amazement are heard. This is the moment Hermione stops being a dorky, plain know-it-all and starts to become a beautiful young woman.

Mike Newell was another director who really got the best from Emma Watson. This was such a pivotal moment in the life of Hermione Granger, it turned into one of Emma Watson's most memorable performances. She played the scene in such a timid, yet excited way that the viewer could really feel the way Hermione was feeling.

Emma Watson has transformed from a little girl with a dream to a talented young woman with the potential to be an outstanding actress. Although Emma Watson's journey as Hermione Granger has almost reached an end, it is almost certain that she won't leave the "Harry Potter" movies behind without providing us with even more memorable moments in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two"!

As you said it Karen, the Harry Potter series gave fans the opportunity to see Emma Watson transformed from a little girl with a dream to a talented young woman with the potential to be an outstanding actress. It's very rare that you have that opportunity within a series of movies.
