Emmaus

Lisa R. Strong
Walking on the road;
In a place of long ago;
Would I know you?
Would I recognize your face?
My heart is sad because I have missed you;
What a joy it is to know;
That you never really went away;
You will be with me;
On my road to Emmaus;
Even if I can't see you;
I will still know you;
Because you touch my life;
In ways that I cannot explain;
And you break the bread for me;
So that my eyes are opened;
Although you have vanished;
You are still present;
Filling my heart;
With living scriptures;
That no matter how long;
My journey may take me;
I can recline at your table;
Because you love me;
My sweet and beloved guest;
Grant me your peace forever.
