Emmy Winners 2009 List Includes 21 Wins for HBO
It was a Great Night at the Emmy Awards for Cable Television and Host Neil Patrick Harris
In the categories of supporting actor and actress in a comedy series, Jon Cryer took home the award for his work on Two and a Half Men, and Kristin Chenoweth won for her role of Olive Snook on Pushing Daisies. They were both well deserved awards for a couple of very funny people. The lead actress in a comedy series went to Toni Collette for her multi-faceted role on Showtime's United States of Tara. She has been good on the show, but I am not entirely sure she should have been the one taking home the award tonight. It was no surprise on the side of lead actor in a comedy series, as Alec Baldwin won for his work on 30 Rock.
Jeff Probst was again recognized for his hosting work on Survivor, taking home the award for best reality host, and once again The Amazing Race won an Emmy, this time with the award for outstanding reality competition program. In the best decision that the Emmy Awards have made in quite some time, they awarded Michael Emerson the award for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series. His work as Ben Linus on ABC's Lost has been simply outstanding, and it was about time that they gave him some credit for the hard work. The supporting actress award in drama went to Cherry Jones for her role as President Allison Taylor on 24. This was another great choice for an award, and well deserving. The leads in drama went to Glenn Close for Damages on the actress side, and Bryan Cranston (again) for acting in Breaking Bad. He is really doing a great job with that show.
In the bigger awards of the night, outstanding comedy series went to 30 Rock, outstanding drama series went to AMC's Mad Men, and the best mini-series went to Grey Gardens. Combining all of the Emmy Awards, the highest total was seven for Little Dorrit, six for Grey Gardens, and five for 30 Rock. The night was a great one to celebrate television, and this year the voters did an exemplary job with their choices.
