Emotional Freedom Technique

Kimberly Buck
I grew up with a severely depressed mother. It seemed I was destined to follow in her genetic footsteps. At 12, my depression started to rear its ugly head. At 22, it put me in the hospital's psychiatric ward for a few days. I've been searching for years for a way out of this curse. Imagine walking around with a dark cloud around your head, smothering your thoughts and feelings. Life appears as empty as you feel. You're sick to the core of your soul and feel it in every inch of your body and mind.

I did what everyone does. I got a psychiatrist and psychologist. The psychologist was a tremendous help but the progress was slow. The psychiatrist helped as well but I was unsettled by the shot gun approach that seemed to be common in psychiatry. You walk into the office of a psychiatrist or doctor and tell them you are depressed The doctor asks a few questions and give you a pill. The pill makes you nauseous and miserable, only adding to your already depressed state. You go back and the doctor prescribes another pill with the same problems. You feel no change after giving it a good faith effort.

I liken this approach to putting stickers with the names of psychiatric drugs on a dart board and throwing a dart with your eyes closed, over your shoulder. Where it lands, that's what is prescribed.

I have found medicines that do work on depression but after about 6 months to a year, the effects wear off and I'm close to square one again.

I heard about the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) from my father. I was skeptical as I thought it sounded like a load of crap. There is no way that would work for me.

After years of looking for the answer, I came to a point of desperation. I gave it a try. I expected nothing to come of it, but hoped that I would be wrong. Thank God that I was.

I went to youtube and searched for the EFT treatment and participated in the video "Overcoming Depression with Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)." Within 20 minutes I felt better. I couldn't believe it. I was shocked. The last time I tried it I rated my depression and anxiety at a 12 out of 10. At the end of a 40 minute session, I was at a 4. Twenty minutes after I was finished I could barely notice it at all.

I am someone who looks to science for answers. I've studied articles and books on depression and anxiety. This technique doesn't follow traditional wisdom. And maybe that's why it works. It is based on clearing your chakras. This technique follows the same principles that are associated with acupuncture and acupressure.

If you want a scientific explanation for how it works, I can't give you one. All I can say is if you are as sick and tired of psychiatry giving you empty answers and hit or miss medicines, give it a shot. It doesn't cost you money to view and try on youtube. The producer of the video has his own website for more information on the topic at tapping.com.

If you are willing to put skepticism aside, do it.
