Empire Earth III is another great game published by Sierra this year. Released on November 6, 2007, Empire Earth III is causing a bit of a stir among gaming critics and hardcore gamers as possibly the best real-time strategy game of the year for PC. And after trying out the demo for myself and talking with some people who've experienced this new edition of the Empire Earth series, I'd have to say the game's a golden choice for PC gaming.

In the game you can choose between three factions for game play. These factions are Western, middle-Eastern and far-Eastern, all equipped with different buildings, upgrades and troops that come with strengths and weaknesses that play off one another in interesting ways.

Empire Earth III, instead of being stuck in one time zone like many games of the genre, takes you through an entire stretch of history making up hundreds of years. You can watch your civilization and army build and evolve accordingly, separating this game from many others before it. This real-time aspects adds a completely different sensation to the game play and makes for a very addictive ride.

The game play and graphics could be considered a cross between Total War, Age of Empires and Civilization, but also with a colorful twist in animation that is seen in World of Warcraft. No comparisons can really do justice to this game though, and the programmers really came together to make a unique build-and-conquer game with good replay value. So spending $60 dollars won't pay for a week of fun, instead, Empire Earth III will be running through your head all day at work or school.

What's so engrossing about Empire Earth III is watching the progression from stone age archaic warfare to some distant future no one has seen. This evolution from the sword to the laser is also made believable, making it easy to get lost in the brilliant scene-scapes.

The only thing you may not like about Empire Earth III is how similar it is to previous games that have come out. Games like Starcraft and Red Alert share a lot in common with this game, but I found these similarities to be nostalgic and fun to remember. The more seasoned gamers may find Empire Earth III to be a spin off variety of these strategy based war games, but I found it to be a breath of fresh air for PC games that have been losing out to PS3 and XBOX 360.
