The conversion from contractor to employee has been a very ugly one. Most contractors have known about the cross over for a couple of months now ,but no one is quite sure if they will make the cut. What makes West decide which states or areas of states to hire from is a huge mystery. To this date, hundreds of wonderful contractors have been cut loose from a job. At first it was thought that it was due to minimum wages of each state, now it doesn't seem to be that. Other ideas have been things from workers compensation, union or no union states, different laws and taxes with-in some cities; but that is all just speculation as no one really knows the real answer.
The people who have been contracted with West for working at home are handicapped, some house wives wanting to help out with the house-hold budget and some use this as a full time job. Just recently, instead of giving any warning to their contractors, West decided to just lock some workers from being able to log into the required sites to look at their stats or pick up any hours; while some contractors did receive an email stating they will no longer have a position as of September 10th. Some were invited to apply as an employee and they jumped through all of the hoops that West required of them just to later be rewarded with another email about terminating their position with West.
Working with this company has always had it's good, bad and ugly sides. The good is that it is usually the first place people start with when finding a legit company to contract with and to be able to work from home. It is also good for flexibility. You could pick and choose your hours that you wanted to work. Another good is that every two weeks like clockwork checks are sent out. Some of the bad sides of West are that some lines you work with the company are very breach of contract happy. Instead of training correctly they hand out breach of contracts like candy. If you breathe, sneeze, cough or any of the above you will receive one. Some reasons are just imaginary ones. A lot of contractors received them for not doing anything that the breach of contract stated, some were not even working the times that were about the supposed event. On the other hand, there are some good bosses that give breach of contracts to teach the contractor what they did wrong in hopes to keep them from doing it again. Just like everywhere there are good bosses and bad. Some rush you off the line while others will go out of their way to help.
The ugly side of West is that every person working with them is a number. Contractors are not humans to them. It is the only explanation for how they handle the day to day operations of the company. They take hours from contractors without a moments notice. They lock people out of work without even any indication as of why. If a contractor signs up for hours that promises a guaranteed rate, West will drop the guaranteed rate moments before people work their shifts. That leaves them no time to drop those hours and maybe pick up some for another line they work that will pay more per minute. If a contractor has a power outage, cable outage or a computer problem they get it counted against them as West will not allow excused time for anything other than their own system errors (and then it depends on which boss you get in contact with).
The upside of this employee conversion is that it means more jobs stay in the United States instead of more going over seas. West Corporation does have operations in other countries but they see the need to keep a majority of their call centers and at home employee's here. If you are one of the lucky states or are in a city that does make the cut then this still would be a good company to work for. It is a steady pay check every two weeks and if you love to do customer service this is the job for you. West Corporation is a very legit work at home company and that is one thing that everyone that has worked for them will tell you.

Post a CommentANOTHER UGLY SIDE OF WEST CORPORATION
I WAS TERMINATED FROM WEST CORPORATION 05/02/2007 FOR THE REASON OF WEST POLICY VIOLATION, SPECIFICALLY WEAPONS VIOLATIONS.
A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH HUMAN RESOURCES 05/01/2007, STATING I HAD A FIREARM ON THE PREMISES.
ON 05/01/2007, APPROXIMATELY 18:10 HRS I WAS SUMMONED FROM THE PARKING LOT WHERE I WAS OFF THE CLOCK AND HEADED HOME AT THE END OF THE DAY BY MY SUPERVISOR MARGIE S. I WAS BROUGHT BEFORE DEBBIE C. IN HUMAN RESOURCES AND INFORMED OF THE COMPLAINT. I ADMITTED-CONFIRMED TO HER THAT I DID HAVE A FIREARM IN THE CAR KNOWING I WAS IN FULL COMPLIANCE OF OKLAHOMA STATUES. AT THAT TIME I INFORMED DEBBIE C. THAT I POSSESSED AN OKLAHOMA CONCEALED WEAPONS LICENSE (CWL) ISSUED BY THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA, AND SHOWED HERE THE LICENSE. I ALSO INFORMED HER THAT THE CWL AUTHORIZED ME TO POSSESS AND CARRY A FIREARM ON MY PERSON, IN MY CAR, AND ON THE PREMISES ACCORDING TO THE OKLAHOMA SELF DEFENSE ACT OF 2005 (THE ACT) AND I WAS LEGALLY ALLOWED TO
