Zack Bradley, played by Dane Cook, is what you would call the low-standing "box boy" of the Wal-Mart wanna-be Super Club. When a hott new cashier by the name of Amy (Jessica Simpson) comes to the store, Zack decides to pick up the slack. He decides to become Employee of the Month to impress her. But in order to do that, he must not only work, but out-do the number one cashier, Vince Downey (Dax Shepard). From being the first to clean the isles, giving old ladies kisses, and wooing Amy, Zack finds out that work is a whole lot harder than he dreamed it'd be.
I found "Employee of the Month" absolutely hilarious. Unlike other comedies of today, this film's humor strays away from the crude, uncalled-for humor. Instead of disgusting, it's gut-busting. At times, it can be racist, sexist, or even against mentally handicapped people, but it is never extremely offensive. Not even the language is over done. I found this to be a big win for this movie.
The characters are, as typical of the type of movie it is, over the top. Zack lives with his grandma and drives a mo-ped to work. Vince has his little tag-a-long named Horhey who is obsessed with Vince's car. A friend of Zack's, Lon, has his eyes magnified by thick glasses, only to not be able to see a thing. The woman in charge of the files of the employees can be "bought off" by a couple of broken Butterfingers.
The movie even goes out to include a plot of Zack's ascension in the business world, and how he tries to balance his best friends with his new found respect and love interest. It's by no means serious, but it is an entertaining story.
I would recommend this movie to fans of humor. No sense of humor is complete until you have seen the new employee of the month, Dane Cook, in action.
