If you are running a store location, you need to ensure that you have someone around that is knowledgeable or your products. Having a good sales staff in the virtual worlds can often mean the difference between making a sale or being overlooked for your competition. If someone has a question about products they want quick answers, they do not however want someone who follows them around so having someone that is dedicated to sales is typically not necessary, but someone who can quickly answer questions is very important.
Marketing is one of the most important aspects of a virtual business. Regardless of how long you have been in business, you have to establish your virtual presence and a marketing manager can help you. The marketing manager can help you to tailor advertising campaigns for your budget, product and business style so that you can increase your sales and improve awareness of your products.
A general manager for your virtual location is only necessary if your business is very busy. If you have numerous staff and do not have the time to manage it yourself, then consider looking for someone to fill this role. They handle things such as working with the marketing manager to plan events, sales, staffing and other critical needs. They can also be responsible for scoping out new satellite locations that can be helpful if you are looking to build sales as well.
You could also consider using one of your existing employees at your physical location for your general manager of the virtual location since they will already have a thorough knowledge of your business, plus it will be easier for you to follow up with them on their needs and how things are going. Using someone that is only in world is possible, but it can be more difficult to manage time effectively, and ensure that you are getting the results that you are looking for overall.
Ensuring that you have the staff that you need when you need it is very important. A well staffed business that is properly managed can be a great extension of your business and will allow you to find all of the time that you need to improve your business and focus on the more important aspects that require your attention.
