Asheville is famed for the beauty of the area, and that is the major part of what makes it such a desirable area for people to live in. Another great bonus to the area is the wide variety of job opportunities available to residents. However, this may not be the case if you do not have an established field with education and experience to back it up. Entry level good paying jobs are a bit more difficult to land, and the salaries are not the best.
According to LocalJobs, the largest sources of employment in the Asheville area are in the manufacturing, tourism and retail industries. The manufacturing industry accounts for about 21% of the employment available in Asheville, and companies in Asheville produce a wide array of products. Some of these products include automotive parts, machinery, fabricated metal, plastics, textiles, electronic components, and much more.
Employment within the tourism industry is widely available because of the tourist attraction that Asheville has become. Because of the natural beauty that can be seen all over the city, along with it being home to America's Largest Privately Owned Home, the Biltmore Estate, the tourism industry in the area is always booming.
Two large regional shopping malls and 4,000 small businesses give way to the growing retail industry in the area. Large retailers such as Marshalls and Old Navy have finally made it to the area, and there is no end in sight to the national chains making a new home in the Western North Carolina area. The industry also tends to continue growth due to the large influx of people who work in other professions relocating to the area to live and shop.
Other industries which are seeing continued growth for employment in the Asheville area are the healthcare industry, knowledge based professions such as telecommunications, information technology and multimedia. The healthcare industry has seen the most dramatic growth, employing over 8,000 people from Asheville and the surrounding area, accounting for approximately 12% of the total earned wages in the area. Another plus for you if you are involved in any sort of healthcare position, Asheville generally shows consistency in having open positions.
Some places to look for jobs include the LocalJobs.com website, along with your major online job search engines, and local publications. The job market continues to experience some growth for certain professions in spite of the general economic slump the nation is experiencing.
