Employment Opportunities as Amusement Park and Attractions Attendant

Melvin Richardson
A lot of college kids and high school students will seek jobs at amusement parks during the summer. These types of jobs are definitely seasonal. In most positions you will be required to interact with the public by greeting guests and providing world class customer service. If you see people sponging in lines or jumping ahead of people you will be required to enforce the rules and regulations of the park. Some rides require that you issue safety warnings and precautions which help keep everyone free from injury.

You may have to operate the controls for a ride. You will have to stay alert to make sure everyone is safely seated and fastened in. it is important to take your time and ensure everyone is sitting and strapped in before a ride is dispatched. Of course there will be other duties and responsibilities to perform such as cleaning up trash and keeping the restrooms clean.

You should also be aware of the fact that many of the amusement parks are strapped with debt and at least one is considering the possibility of bankruptcy therefore they may not have as many crowds this summer. Also unemployment is very high so teenagers and college students will now have to compete with older workers for employment opportunities. Less jobs will be available therefore it would be to your advantage to apply as soon as possible so that you don't get left out.

There will be a variety of schedules including early morning and late night therefore you may want to remain flexible. Many of the jobs will take place on the inside and some on the outside. This gives you a choice about where you can work. Some people prefer outdoors and others indoors. The hot sun can be a deterrent for working outside for some. Just about all of the jobs will require you to stand practically the entire day so you may want to make sure that you are well rested. Get a good night sleep the night before.

You may have to interact favorably with the public and be exposed to noise pollution for an extended period of time. Some job requirements ask that you be able to life 20 to 50 pounds. A job of this sort may require that you do a certain amount of bending, lifting, moving, pushing and twisting. Make sure that you don't over do it. At times it can be easy to sprain a muscle or some other time of injury if you are not paying attention.
