If you have a pleasant personality and love to talk with people then you may want to become a bartender. You should excellent customer service skills because you will be talking with people on a regular basis. Most jobs allow you to earn salary plus tips. Your earning potential depending on the location can be any where from $800 to $1,200 per week. There are places that are looking for experienced as well as inexperienced. If you have experience all the better but if you don't there will be adequate training that allows you to learn the job and the profession. Some of your training could be simulated using a real bar.

Attitude

You will definitely need to be a people person because some people come in with the idea of talking to the bartender. You will be in contact with all sorts of people with all different backgrounds so you will have to be able to communicate with people. Having a high level of energy will ensure that you don't have a big let down during the day. As a bartender you will be required to stand practically the entire day. Stay positive and stay engaged with the clientele. This job allows you to have fun and meet a lot of exciting people.

Hard work

As a bartender you will be on the go constantly. There probably won't be a whole lot of time to stop and collect your thoughts, especially on the weekends.

Variety

You can have just about any background for bartending. There are full time and part time opportunities available. It's just a matter of finding out which schedule meets your needs and helps you to achieve your goals and objectives. You may want to balance your time bartending with your regular job.

Customer service skills

You have to have great customer service skills because you will be serving people on a day to day basis. When you deliver world class service you ensure that your clientele will return on a regular basis. You definitely want to have repeat customers. As you begin giving good service you will notice that your same customers will come to you even if there are more than one bartender behind the bar. This helps you to establish a relationship for years and in the process make more friends and acquaintances. You just never know who you will meet. Some of the best partnerships and joint ventures have been orchestrated in bars and restaurants.

Eventually you will acquire the knowledge needed to succeed. You will need to know how to mix a variety of drinks. You will be serving beer, alcohol and food.
