Employment Opportunties Are Slim with Approaching Holiday Season
Leap of Faith: Workers Cling as Holiday Season Approaches
Sorry to disappoint, but as we get closer to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday, one may notice far less employment opportunities within the area. Can you blame them? Realistically, who wants to enter the holiday season unemployed, miserable and without income? To top it off, for those parents - the situation and struggle is far tougher than many imagine.
Undeniably, the once quiet & vacant clerical, librarian and assistant opportunities have faded away. Mainly what is left now is customer service positions to meet the rush of the holiday season. Unfortunately, many of these positions don't offer many benefits or competitive salary. Instead, offering opportunities for persons looking to pass the time or contribute to the holiday season.
For recent graduates it doesn't get any easier. They face the frustration head on as they are forced to grab anything in order to diminish the amount student loans. Many times the position for which they apply do not coincide with their major. Thus, they reach complacency and decide to hold on much longer than expected.
There are few employment opportunities available. The retail chain always needs help around this time of the year if you aren't too stubborn about your taste of employment. They hire almost anybody with a good background, bright smile and schedule flexibility. Grocery stores may be an option too. Safeway, Food Marts, Giant, Shoppers and Food Lion - you name it. Food Service is another possible avenue. Consider local restaurants that need back up waiters for special & large family holiday services. If you enjoy Sales, there are many opportunities out there for you especially during this season. Fortunately, for many of these positions a resume isn't required. Experience isn't a factor and call back ratio is typically higher because of the dire need.
Best advice offered, stay where you are. If you don't have to leave at this point, don't. Something is always better than nothing. In addition, with the holiday season so close, now isn't the time to drastically change careers. Commend those brave souls who have taken a faith leap from one road, hopefully to land another. Allow them the ease of knowing that their days will eventually get better. It's a disheartening feeling to be unemployed and not know when the next opportunity will come. But we got to keep our heads up and believe that although the time passes we'll get our break.
