Empty Town

Patrick W. Marsh
I know I heard it before,
but I believe you, you know.
It sounds different coming from you,
just remember that you said it.

The town, our capital, could be the host
of some elaborate ghost story or science fiction
extravaganza of soul sucking or personality changing theme.
People are sent out there, and they change,
they assimilate to a city wide arrogance,
where you speak in declarations without fact,
and without the knowledge that leads you there.
A fog falls on them as they arrive, it numbs the
senses and thickens the tongue.
You begin to speak as others tell you,
a mouth behind, a mouth behind, a mouth behind,
a corrupt hive.
Lobbyists come forth for every issue like it were
open debate, making it untrue that pollution kills, or war
costs money, or state should be separate from church?
The land of silver tongued devils
flourishes under the eye of money.
Now mutiny of ideas is continuous
with polls and parties, leaving those
who are targeted by the lines in bills a
thousand pages long questioning
what happened to them?

I know I heard it before,
but I believe you, you know.
It sounds different coming from you,
just remember that you said it.

You recognize the corruption. Well said!

Your words really ring true, sadly. "Numbs their senses" is exactly right.

excellent work. I found it very well done. It was like walking next to you as you spoke the truth that no one could hear, yet some can hear it if they open their ears a certain way right? Beautiful. Excellent social critique.
