EMusic.Com Has Hidden Charges

Nothing is Free

Did you ever get billed for something you never ordered?

Have you been charged for an item you never received?

It's frustrating, isn't it?

What if there's nothing you can legally do about it?

It's because of all the small print that 'nobody reads' and everyone is responsible to read.

You know what I mean.

When you download a program from Microsoft, you have to read all the small print and then click on "I Agree" before you can proceed.

We understand that.

But who reads the small print? And what if you didn't get the "I Agree" button to press?

Let me explain what happened.

I bought a Toshiba laptop computer from Wal-Mart.

There was a coupon inside for 50 free songs from Emusic.com.

That's not what I got.

I visited the site. I had never heard of any of the artists. I had never heard any of the music. Some of the music costs several 'songs'.

I decided to find Beethoven, since I figured that was safe.

I got some unknown singer, and some classical Beethoven, neither of which I recognized. The Beethoven was worth fourteen 'songs'. So, I assumed I could get three Beethoven pieces and use up my fifty 'songs' pretty quickly.

They don't have Beethoven's fifth. I should have seen the red flags go up.

Then, I had to agree to pay about $75.00 a month to receive the 'free' songs. There were a few other options, all of which required money for 'free' music. I went ahead and clicked. That was stupid. The charges began immediately. My PayPal was charged two separate $1.00 fees. Then I was charged for the 'free' subscription.

I canceled the service with Emusic, after threats of publicity. They not so cheerfully refunded my 'free' subscription. I still have two $1.00 charges pending on my PayPal account.

I contacted PayPal because of the fraudulent fees. They said there is nothing they can 'legally' do.

Emusic says I signed a contract with them when I clicked my mouse. But I wasn't allowed to enter the site unless I clicked. Clicking must be illegal on this site. It costs.

So my 'click' is still costing me at the present time.

I've never downloaded anything, and have no music to show for it.

Strange world we live in, huh?

Thanks for the tip. I bought this Toshiba via TOSHIBA a year ago but haven't had time for free music searching til now. And, since the net has several 35 free song offers, it took awhile to find the 50 song coupon offer and you! Saved me a lot of time and trouble, both of which I have plenty of already. Again, thanks.
