Enchanted Movie: Educational Activities and Games for 2 to 5 Year Olds

Rebecca Hayes
Let's face it, kids love movies, but it's been proven that they should watch no more than 2 hours of TV a day. So why not combine their love of a movie and activities that will help them learn and grow? Following are suggestions for the movie Enchanted released in 2007. These activities would also work well for preschool classes and party games for this age group.

Watch the movie

Let your kids watch the show while you prepare the activities for the rest of the day or attend to other responsibilities.

Rhyme Activity

Teach your child this rhyme.

Lavender's Blue

Lavender's blue, dilly, dilly.

Lavender's green,

When I am king, dilly, dilly,

You shall be queen.

Call up your men, dilly, dilly.

Set them to work,

Some to the plough, dilly, dilly,

Some to the cart,

While you and I, dilly, dilly,

Keep ourselves warm.

Read a Book

There are a lot of incredible books available to go along with the movie Enchanted. Pick one you think your child would enjoy and involve them while you are reading. Ask them questions about the pictures and story. Following are a few suggestions of books to read.

  • The Prince's Bedtime PB w CD by Joanne Oppenheim and Miriam Latimer

  • How to be a Princess in 7 Days or Less (How to be a) by Editors of Kingfisher and Jessie Eckel

  • E Is For Empire: A New York Alphabet by Ann Burg and Maureen Brookfield

Make a Collage Person

Gather up items like popsicle sticks, stickers, glue, pipe cleaners, pom-poms, googly eyes, fabric scraps, and any other item you think would be useful. Help your child make a person out of these items just like Giselle makes a person out of household items in the opening sequence of the movie.

Make up a Fairy Tale

Fold 3-4 pieces of paper in half and staple along the folded edge. You now have a book. Help your child come up with their own fairy tale. If you need to help them write it down write along the bottom of each page. Let your child add illustrations.

Build a Castle

Mix together four cups of flour and one cup of salt. Slowly add one and a half cups of warm water until you get a soft and elastic dough. Offer your child cookie cutters and other items and help them make a castle out of the dough. If you let it sit out it will dry out and they can paint or decorate it when it is dry.
