Encouraging Your Teenager to Drive Safely

Teenage drivers

Did you know that 7 percent of all licensed drivers are teenagers . Anywhere between the ages of 16 to 19 . According to the American Academy of Pediatrics a 16 year old is more likely to have a fatal car accident then any other licensed driver .A friends son died last year by car ,Seems they were speeding .

Why are teenagers more likely to have accidents than the rest of us?

As in anything, experience is a plus factor in driving .A new teen age driver is not experienced and is limited to his or her abilities. A new driver is not used to the car or the road .And a lot of times will misjudge the road at certain times , like on rainy days and fog. Not being able to see what's around the corner will lead to a accident.

Teenagers also tend to drive by their emotions. For example, if he or she is upset will speed . Peer pressure will also lead to higher speed driving than if they were driving alone .The teen that will party is also a risk, To have any kind of alcohol or drug in the body will often lead to a accident usually fatal., Also a teen driver will tend to race each other on the highways at high speed and usually a accident will occur .

How can a parent help their teenage driver?

Encourage your young driver to wear their seatbelts at all times .After awhile this will become a habit. Encourage the new driver to follow the speed limits at all times. If the new driver doesn't follow the rules of the speed ,take the car keys away. Better your child be angry with you than to have to go to his funeral .Talk to your child about the partying and alcohol and drugs abuse .A driver that is impaired with these can have a fatal accident injuring them or the people in the car or another car. Also encourage the driver to be a safe driver at all times ,if they see how you drive and use you as example then give them a good one by following the rules of the road .

Your child does grow up and you have to let them

As a parent, it is hard to let your child get his or her driver's license at a very young age. We want our children to grow and be independent. We also want to see them graduate high school, get their first jobs, and go to college. A lot of teenage drivers have fatal accidents and do not get the opportunity to do any of the things that their parents would like to see them do. As an adult and a parent, it is our job to be extra careful when you are out driving and see a teen driver. You have to be careful around them, as the other drive. You could end up being the driver that they end up getting into a fatal accident with. So set the example, it may not be your child driving, but you are helping the inexperienced driver by watching out for them.
