Encouraging a Teenager to Grow as a Christian

When I was in youth ministry, I would often write letters to encourage youth to continue growing into Christ's likeness. Here are 3 examples of these letters to a young man.

[Boy's Name],

Hey man. How is life going for you? Life is going here. I just wanted to write you again to let you know that I prayed for you today. I prayed that you would treat your parents with the respect and obedience that God commands, and that you would live your life solely for being obedient to Christ. Whenever we're young, it's easy to look around at others and think that Christianity is something you do when you get older. That is not true. Christianity is a relationship with Jesus Christ. If we claim to have Him, then we have made a commitment to fully serve Him and Him alone. Our age does not matter. 1 Timothy 4:12 says, "Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity." I want to encourage you to base your obedience to Jesus, not on your age, but on what He has given you. Our heart would not even beat if God did not give us life. As each day passes, may you be an example to all those around you. I love you man, and if you ever need anything, please contact me.

I prayed that God would break your heart for Him, and your life would be a testimony of your love for God. Many times, as you grow up, you will hear from your parents, Tony, and me that Jesus is the only One worth living for. Temptations will come against you every day that you live, but always know in your heart that nothing is comparable to Jesus Christ. You have a choice, to either listen to your parents and the Bible, or to learn for yourself. I encourage you to listen to God's Word, for it will protect you from the things that will try to lead you from obedience to Christ. As each day passes, may the God of all comfort and peace, bless you as you live your life for Him. I love you bud, and if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to get a hold of me. Be good.
