End of Autumn

Julie Abrams

The autumn sky is cold and gray,

Black trees are dead and bare,

A chill dark night erases all vestiges of day.

An old barn cat is known to stray,

Beneath the trees a mouse does dare.

The autumn sky is cold and gray.

The tom cat flicks his paw, nothing more than play,

As the wind blows down a blast of air.

A chill dark night erases all vestiges of day.

Behind the clouds a sleepy ray,

The silver moon does stare.

The autumn sky is cold and gray.

The cat and mouse in wild array,

A game of death is fair.

A chill dark night erases all vestiges of day.

From a hollow tree, a gentle sway,

The owl atop a limb does stare.

The autumn sky is cold and gray,

A chill dark night erases all vestiges of day.
