End in Sight for Duke Lacrosse Case

Duke Lacrosse Case to Be Dropped and D.A. Nifong Under Investigation

Michael Holt
We can expect the sexual assault and kidnapping charges against the ex-Duke Lacrosse members to be dropped sometime in the near future; apparently there is no case left after the clear DNA evidence to the contrary of the Prosecutions case has gone public. This all happen despite the best efforts of District Attorney Mike Nifong to conceal them, who now may face charges himself.

It's been clear from the start that these Lacrosse players did not sexually assault the stripper/student from a nearby college that was dancing at the off-campus party they hosted at the house several Duke Lacrosse members lived at. The story has received an enormous amount of media coverage and caused racial discussion on Duke Campus. Many students expressed how the situation made them feel. The Lacrosse team has just recently been reinstated and, against all odds, actually is doing quite well. It's just a shame that a district attorney would feel the need to put away innocent people to meet his own benefit.

The evidence did not exist to indict to begin with, the 3 players that were indicted were picked out of a faulty line-up. A line-up has to consist of both the potentially guilty people and other people who are innocent. The line-up shown to the stripper consisted entirely of Duke Lacrosse players. This means she didn't have a chance to pick someone other then a lacrosse player.

Another clue that this story held no water, the stripper tells different versions of the night of the so-called rape every time she tells it. She was found the night of the alleged incident refusing to get out of a patron of the gas stations car and a police officer had to be dispatched to get her out of the car. The Officer to arrive on scene described her as drunk in his report of the incident.

Many believe Nifong lied and pushed extra hard to pin the players for this, despite the fact he got results back from a lab that did not match any Lacrosse players at Duke, because he was up for re-election shortly after the case went public. Mike Nifong, who has been kicked off the case, is currently under-investigation by the BAR Association for possibly participating in improper practices.

Apparently D.A. Nifong didn't feel that the lives of 3 star lacrosse players mattered much compared to his re-election. One of the players had already graduated by the time the story came out, however the other two were suspended form the school. The Lacrosse coach was basically forced to retire due to public out roar. Hopefully now, after charges are dropped, after the lacrosse team gets back into competition, and after Nifong get's investigated the people charged with a lie can finally move on, if they ever can.
