End of Summer Hair Care: Get Your Hair Ready for Fall

Rosallee Scott

The cooler months are upon us. It's the season of changing leaves and changing hair. End of summer hair care is more than just finding the perfect fall hairstyle trend that best fits your face and personality. It is also about undoing the damage that the months filled with heat, humidity and fun in the sun has done to your tresses. Ask any stylist and they'll tell you the same thing. No matter how well you took care of your mane during summer, it will need some special treatment to get it healthy again.

Clarifying Shampoo
Any woman who goes swimming in chlorinated pools knows the importance of a good clarifying shampoo. Even if you never needed to use one during the summer, now is the time to switch out your regular shampoo for a week or two. You'll be surprised at how much buildup coated your hair over the summer. Even the extra styling products that you used to keep your styles perfect through beach barbecues and sailing parties will add up to heaviness over time.

Deep Conditioner
End of summer hair care means replenishing the moisture that the sun has bleached out over the last few months. The simple act of having to really work on your tresses in order to keep them frizz free during real humid days may cause damage. A week or so of a good deep conditioning product should help relax your tired and stressed mane back into shiny restfulness.

Haircut
Even if you are not the kind to seek out a new hairstyle for the season, at least a trim is in order to start fresh for fall. No matter how expensive or wonderful your hair care treatment products are, the damage that cannot be undone at the ends will still be there. Just a few inches taken off now will save a lot of breakage later.

Color
Fall is a time of change, follow the leaves lead and consider brightening up your color a little. You do not have to take a drastic leap into a different hue completely, unless you want too. A few highlights, lowlights or just one shade darker or lighter can make a world of difference. Find out the perfect color for your skin tone and just go for it. Don't be surprised when you look and feel years younger with only a subtle change.

End of summer hair care is all about repairing and pampering your hair from what you put it through over your vacation months. Take the time to take care of your tresses now so they serve you well over the holiday picture taking season to come.
