Endless Nightlife Options in New York

When I leave New York, at least I will say I have done it all. To say I have a healthy social life these days is an understatement. By the time each week starts, I have something scheduled for every evening whether it is business or social. The only thing is, I am permanently exhausted. Thank goodness for coffee, otherwise I would never get through my day. I definitely have to leave New York and not for negative reasons. This town is like a runaway train, at some point, you have to get off because unless you run into something you will keep going forever.

The thing about it is the variety, you can keep going out and find a new place all the time. Since we live on the West Side, my girlfriends and I tried out Evelyn Lounge one night. I have not been back there for years and the first night I had gone there I met a Chinese guy who I dated for 6 months. Anyway, on this particular night, we ran into a group of guys celebrating their buddy's 25th birthday. They were friendly and monopolized us all night but since my girlfriends and I are thirty-something or older, we had no desire to keep the clingers-on. I can't tell anyone to get lost so we ended up leaving early because we couldn't shake those guys off.

We like to have a location theme in our New York nightlife and we love to try vastly different neighborhoods in the city. When it comes to clubbing nothing beats The Meatpacking District and we spent one night having fun bar-hopping there. The bouncers at the clubs there like to give everybody a hard time when getting in and in winter it is too cold to wait around in misery so we opted to go to bars like Gaslight, Bhudhakhan and Hogs 'N Heifers instead. We met a whole wide demographic group of men but I gave my phone number to a young twenty-something guy, which I later regretted. Although I look young, I like my men age-appropriate so anyone under thirty need not apply.

After reading about 'millionaire speed-dating' at Bruno's on the Upper East Side, we decided to check out Bruno's on a regular night so we would not have to pay the fee. Well they failed to mention that the millionaires are a bunch of old, sugar-daddies who are even older than our fathers. But we got lots of champagne and it was nice to be the youngest and most attractive women in the room for a change. Most women there were of the over-preserved, mutton-dressed-as-lamb variety, I got lots of compliments on my dancing. I guess in the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king!

In order to mix things up, we've been to African clubs, The Hudson Bar/Columbus Circle area, Harlem clubs and a night in 'club-land' on the West side where Marquee and such are located. I like to keep it local in Harlem on Saturdays so I don't have to come downtown so I usually have dinner at restaurants like The River Room, Mo'bay and Baton Rouge which have a band. That way I feel like I have gone out somewhere. The days of spending Saturday nights at home are over, I have a tight network of friends who make me go out so I am never lonely. What New York lacks in romantic connections it makes up for in tight friendships.
