Endlessly Flavored Sun Teas

The Recipe for Great Refreshment

Kristen Anne Harvey
There's nothing better to compliment having fun in the sun than cooling down with a cold, tall glass of sun-brewed iced tea. From bold to fruity, the flavor combinations are as endless as your imagination. With a little creativity, enjoying your perfect glass of tea is just a few experiments away. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Just add fruit

From the juicy Georgia Peach to the tangy blueberry, fruity tea is delicious. You can take a little frozen fruit, puree it in your blender, and add it to the bottom of your tea jar. Place your tea bags and add the water.

Spice it up.

Many people like spiced teas. Cinnamon, cloves, and rosehips are commonly used in teas. The best method is to use big pieces you can remove before drinking.

Go green.

Green teas are flavorful and antioxidant rich. Add a couple of bags to your black tea bags for extra flavor.

Bag it.

This is the secret to my tea making success. For those of you who are in a hurry, this is the tip for you. There are hundreds of little boxes of already flavored herb, green, red, white and black teas. Fruity, spiced and exotic flavors all compacted into small tea bags. Throw two of these into your tea jar and you are on your way to a delicious blend of flavors.

If you are new to making Sun Tea the process is simple.

Get a glass tea jar. This makes for the best tasting Sun Tea

Place your add-ins at the bottom of the jar

3-4 Iced Tea sized Tea Bags or 6-8 regular sized. You may want to hold the strings while you add the water

Add liquefied sugar if desired (usually sugar and hot water stirred until dissolved)

Fill it up with water

When putting the lid on try to keep the paper end of the tea bags just under the outside rim so the lid holds them in place

Place in a sunny area for 2-6 hours- depending on how strong you like itHave fun. Use more or less flavoring and tea. See what you like, or what you're in the mood for. Today while you are enjoying a picnic in the park or working hard in the yard, have a refreshing glass of the house recipe Yours.

Peach tea is one of my favorite summertime drinks. I like the idea of adding green tea bags to black tea. I'll have to try that this summer.
