Energetic Interventions :: Ghostbusting in the 21st Century

I don't get slimed by ecto-plasm or carry a proton pack like they did in the film, but I do encounter ghosts living amongst us. I am a modern day, real-life ghost buster. The phrase "ghost busting" implies there's something to be busted, when in fact, there's really only another being that needs help. I call myself an "energetic intervention-ist." When there's energy amuck, out of place, disrupting families, I am called in to compassionately assist both the living and the non-living energies.

The entire paranormal culture continues to fascinate me! I once thought ghosts only existed in science fiction and fantasy, but now I deal with ghosts, Angels, and spirits on a daily basis.

TELEVISION GHOST HUNTERS

Sometimes on a quiet night, I find myself drawn into the television shows tracking the paranormal. Even as an intuitive who deals with spirits and ghosts regularly, I'm intrigued (and even a bit creeped out!) by the idea of catching "proof" of the other-worldly. As the show ends and the plight of the family comes to a tidy close with a caption on the screen: "The family still senses the ghost in their home but are no longer frightened...." I cannot help but wonder: "What happens next?" Are the families left to figure out how to deal with sharing their home with a ghost? Are the ghosts left to linger in a state of limbo? Or is there someone like me who comes in and helps the spirit get to the Other Side where s/he belongs?

As a psychic who sees, talks to, and works with ghosts, I'm often torn at ethical crossroads: Do these ghost hunters do just that ... Hunt? Poke? Prod? Provoke? ...Stir up the energies and then just leave? Do they ever escort the ghost into the Light where s/he belongs? Or do they banish the ghost from THAT house leaving the ghost to move on to another house down the block and the cycle starts all over again?

Perhaps what they forget, and we all conveniently ignore, is the fact ghosts are people too! These earthbound spirits are in need of the same compassionate and loving assistance everyone else requires from time-to-time.

Paranormal investigators serve a helpful role in aiding the living and non-living alike. It is often these patient and skilled specialists who are sought out to help confirm the unexplained. Calling in a priest to bless your home is a well-intentioned and comforting ritual, also, but it's rarely successful in completely removing the physical presence of an unembodied energy.

In banishing the ghost from your home, the energy of the person remains and is still left in a state of limbo. Rather than "residing" where they felt safe (in your home), they are unceremoniously kicked out to remain unsettled somewhere else. If a lost child is crying on the street, do you walk by ignoring their frightened cries for help? Of course not, so why would you banish the spirit from your home without providing help to get them where they belong? In banishing the energy from your home, you only ensure they become someone else's problem and ensure they remain in a place where they do not belong.

SPACE IS NOT THE INFINITE BEYOND

Space, even energetic space, is finite. We only have so much space available to us to live on our planet. Earth is a "school" for those of us in physical form -- a place of loving, creating and learning. We come here to learn our lessons and then, like any graduation, it's time to move on. When the space of our Earth School is being shared by the "alumni" who have died and should have already left, we all have a hard time focusing our attention and putting our best foot forward. None of us are thriving when we are so energetically crowded in this finite space.

Take, for example, the concept of "personal space": When someone is standing physically too close, then you feel cramped, closed in, and sometimes violated (even though they are just standing there, not even touching you!). Those of us attuned to energy can feel this over-crowding. Those who cannot feel it are very much affected by it even though they never know its happening.

Most of the time, this cramped space and the energies causing it, pose no physical threat to us. But they are affecting our ability to thrive. The Earth School is intended for the living, but as long as energetic over population continues, we are all being held back.

HOW'D THIS HAPPEN ANYWAY?

It's no secret modern man is out of touch with our sacred traditions. In losing much of our ancestral path in today's society, we have contributed to the energetic pollution of our planet. The Aborigines of Australia believe psychic pollution is, in fact, the greatest threat to Mother Earth. Technology too plays its role for it is a double-edged sword. Without sacred ritual and proper afterlife ceremonies (ghosts walking our earth unable to move on) are the natural consequence.

The lack of ritual, proper ceremony and funerary rites are leaving many people in a state of limbo. Unfortunately, some spirits linger on our plane after they have transitioned from their earthly bodies. Interestingly, we have great reverence for dead bodies, but what of the SOULS which demand our greatest respect? Where once the deceased were helped to the Other Side with intricate rituals and elaborate ceremonies such as those within the Tibetan Book of the Dead and even within the Last Rites administered by Catholic priests, most individuals now are honored only after death (with a funeral) but are not aided at their moment of passing. It is this time gap when the soul is left to figure it out on his/her own. Most are ushered into the Light by loved ones and Angelic helpers. But the remaining, perhaps surprised or even traumatized by their passing, are left in the In-between....

Just as we have a purpose to fulfill on Earth, so too do these spirits have a cycle to complete.
