Energizing and Healthy Breakfast Drink Recipes

Dee Dee Smith
This morning I left my home earlier than usual to get a jump start on some errands. I first made a stop at a local combination gas station and convenience store. The lines at the cashier's desk were unbelievable, but to my surprise most people were not purchasing gas. No, most were in line to purchase extremely large cups of coffee or other caffeine packed drinks like Mountain Dew and Coca Cola.

How healthy can it be to begin every morning with lots of caffeine and sugar? Additionally, how much money could you save making your own breakfast drinks at home? Following are a few simple and healthy breakfast drink ideas. If you have the habit of sipping on your breakfast beverage throughout the morning, consider putting these drinks in a large thermos to transport with you.

Alcohol Free Mimosa

What You'll Need: Orange Juice, Sparking White Grape Juice or Sparkling Apple Cider
The Mimosa is a very simple cocktail. It is typically made by mixing equal portions of orange juice and champagne together for a refreshing drink. Begin your morning with an alcohol-free version of this popular drink. Instead of using champagne, use sparkling white grape juice or apple cider. Start by putting a handful of ice in your favorite mug, thermos or flute glass. Next, pour in orange juice until the container is half-full. Now you're ready to add your sparkling beverage. Pour in sparking beverage slowly (as it will fizz) until glass or container is full.

Green Tea Beverages

What You'll Need: Green Tea, Vanilla Flavored Milk, Ice Cubes, Honey and Whipped Cream
Various reports state that green tea is good for you. Consequently, it can be a great drink to begin your day with. Start your day with a fancy, homemade frappucino. Prepare 1 cup of your favorite green tea according to directions. Sweeten with honey while still hot. Pour 1/2 cup of vanilla flavored soy, rice or almond milk in blender. Add green tea and a handful of ice cubes. Blend until smooth. Top with a dollop of whipped cream and serve yourself. As a delicious hot tea, sweeten green tea with orange, or other fruit flavored honey. Hot green tea is also delicious with a whipped cream topping.

Fruity Iced Teas

What You'll Need: 6 Tea Bags, Sweetener, Frozen Fruit (Mango, Strawberries, Peaches or Pineapple work great)
Still need a little caffeine jolt in the morning? Try a delicious fruity iced tea. Start with your favorite tea (green, white or black will work). Make 2-3 strong cups according to instructions. Put 1/2 cup of frozen fruit in the blender. Using frozen fruit eliminates the need for lots of ice. Pour in iced tea and 2 tablespoons of your favorite sweetener. Blend until fruit is well blended. Pour mixture over ice and serve. This drink is very tasty and refreshing.
