Energy Drinks - is the Hype Real?

Jerry
Energy drinks have a largely growing demand, every day here in the United States. Why is that people love these drinks that are meant to increase our supply of energy?

People believe they're healthy, for one. Other reasons may include the fact that some of them taste great. Others may just burn your throat or taste nasty. Another big reason why people drink energy drinks is because it'll give them a temporary "buzz". They can help people stay awake later at night. They can help people wake up before school in the morning.

What people don't realize, is that there is so much more to these drinks than what they've been drinking them for.

Sugar
These drinks are packed with sugar. Sugar is not exactly a bad thing, as some people may make it. Too much sugar definitely is a bad thing. Excessive amounts of sugar will definitely increase body weight and chances of having a heart attack. But out body needs sugar to run on. Our brain functions primarily on glucose. With this extra sugar buzz, our brain will function much better as a whole, and we will think much clearer and act much faster for a small amount of time.

Crash
As with most sources of fast energy, most energy drinks are followed with a huge crash. After the effects of the sugar, caffiene, and other energy supplements wear off, you're going to feel excessively tired. This will usually happen sometime around lunch time, assuming you had one in the morning.

Once your body starts to metabolize something else after the energy drink, you'll feel an intense tired and lack of motivation to do any work at all.

Cocaine
No, I'm not referring to the drug. But Cocaine energy drinks were a huge deal for a while. Many people believed that these intense energy drinks were discontinued because of the name. No, they weren't. They were discontinued because they're so powerful that they tend to burn your throat, and while they are drank excessively, can cause ulsers in your stomache. These are energy drinks at their worse.

Cancer
I definitely don't believe this hype. I mean, of course energy drinks can cause cancer. But people claim toilet paper can now cause cancer. Diet Coke can cause cancer. Next thing you know, sitting down will cause cancer. Don't believe these horrible attempts at an attack on a product. Energy drinks are as harmful as most other soft drinks.
