Energy Drinks: How They Work

Quick boosts of energy are sometimes required within your busy lifestyle. Energy drinks were created for just that purpose. They are the newest trend amongst teenagers, college students and busy adults. Nearly any person at any time can find a use for a quick "pick-me-up" throughout a busy day. Our fast paced lifestyles have served to fuel the energy drinks popularity.

As a safer and legal alternative to steroids, athletes have also joined the energy drink bandwagon. Quick shots of energy boosts are now sold and lead to bursts of energy just before a game or athletic event.

These energy shots do not contain the steroids and amphetamines used in other methods to enhance performance; however, they still manage to achieve a desired result: enhanced performance. This means that athletes who are tested for illegal drugs and substance abuse will not test positive while using energy shots.

Party goers are also on the energy drink craze. Energy drinks are used as mixers with alcohol. So much so that bars have standard drink recipes that require the use of energy drinks, like the Jagerbomb. Mixing the energy drink with alcohol offsets the typical result of drowsiness from alcohol alone. It also keeps party goers up and energized well into the night.

Teens and college students will often use the energy drinks to get a "buzz". Along with the additional energy they provide, it also allows for lucid, alert minds into the night during cramming sessions.

Sometimes our busy lifestyles do not allow us to get enough sleep. This tends to lead to the use of highly caffeinated beverages as well. When the average American mom and dad only receive around 5 maybe 6 hours of sleep per night, it's no wonder they turn to energy drinks to help them through their hectic day.

These energy drinks are scientifically proven to add bursts of energy into your system. Of course the results are short term and wear off fairly quickly once your body has burned the energy.

Once your body has burned the energy from the drink you may feel even less motivated than before. You never want to consume an energy drink too close to bed time or else you will loose even more sleep making the cycle even worse the next day.

It is not wise to consume too many energy drinks in one day or back to back. They have been known to cause adverse side effects. Most people will experience an increased heart rate and some feel this more than others. As always moderation is the key and a healthy lifestyle is preferred. However, should you find yourself needing that extra boost to get you through that important project then an energy drink may be your saving grace!
