Living big means a comfortable life and a high social status in a society. The new direction is turning toward living green; this is defining the smartness and social responsibility of a person in society. The new way of living is mapping the outlook of housing industry, mansion are being converted to be environmental friendly by reducing energy consumption. In our current world, affluent and social status in a community can be judged by how well an individual conserves energy.
The future of architecture lies with designs which will lower energy consumption. Currently in most countries building consumes 30 to 40 % of energy consumption, this is rate which International Energy Agency is ambitiously calling for the energy to be reduced to 17 % by 2050. The approach calls for adaptation of new market regulations requiring building to meet set standards, whether the builders adapt to the regulations or not, the market demand of greener buildings will force the industry to move toward the directions of green buildings.
Builders are assuming technologies helping in designing more friendly environmental buildings. The inclination toward the 2050 goal of reducing buildings energy consumption by 17 % command integrating designs approaches with innovation, using advanced technologies to save energy, applying design materials and equipments which contribute to energy saving, and creating a work force contributing to energy save. The modern technology is applying application of building information software which pushes designs beyond boundaries in visualizing how the new building will perform environmentally. Also smart digital control systems are being implemented to reduce carbon foot print per building.
The prospect is for smart buildings to offer energy savings, increases health comfort for occupants and help the world conserve energy. To meet these goals, the builders are taking into consideration the following issues during design and planning.
1.Site design and planning dealing with transportation and travel distance from the building and impact on ecosystem such as wildlife.
2.Building Envelop tackling the flow of energy between interior and exterior
3.Penetration to determine the type of products, window, doors and skylights to be used in the building construction.
4.On site renewable energy taking into account the use of utility providing green energy or other means of utilizing renewable energy.
5.Water heating where technologies which are efficient in water heating are considered.
6.Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning, which have an effect on heath and comfort of occupants.
The effort and awareness in carbon foot reduction in building is creating a new articture era of design and technologies of comfort and environmental friendliness. Where affluent people have been seen as living a conspicuous consumption life in big mansions, there is an opportunity to diverse that attention to promoting energy conservation by highlighting the changes of technologies and designs they have applied in making their buildings environmental friendly. Some of the mansions have been converted to be more energy friendly than average houses. The learning curve experience attained by successful reducing energy consumption can be shared with the surrounding community to accelerate toward the goal of International Energy agency of reducing energy consumption by 17 % in 2050. The Earth future lies with our ability to live smartly by reducing carbon foot print.
