Energy Saving Tips During Cold Weather

Jacob Horn
Tennessee is currently experiencing some of the coldest temperatures ever recorded in the history of the world. With that being said, chores still have to be done. Although, most people have a dishwasher in the year 2010 there are still some people who prefer to do things like they were done back in the 1860s-wash dishes by hand. During sub zero conditions the heater has to be running at full blast so poor people, like myself, must find other ways to save on the energy bill. One way to save a little money is to use cold water when initially washing your dishes (the phase where you are getting all the food off). Since the temperature is -10 outside the cold water from the tap is about -6. In order to save that money it is essential to use this cold water in the initial phase of washing dishes by hand. There are obvious drawbacks to using cold water in temperatures like this. After about 45 seconds of doing this you will no longer be able to feel your hands. Now, it is vital that once you have completed this first step you then switch over to warm water to actually get rid of the germs. Here, you encounter another drawback. We have all experienced that sensation of being cold and getting into a hot shower. Imagine that but multiply it by 297. You go from not feeling anything to having the most intense sensation in your hands. Some people would call this insane but if you do not qualify for President Obama's freebies this is a necessary step so you an afford to pay for the essentials that the government is now paying for 84% of our country.
