Getting married and don't have a photographer yet? No problem. Yuba City, California hosts quite a few wedding and engagement photographers but there are four that stand out. Here is a handy guide to help you find a fantastic local studio that will best suit your needs.

Hughston's Photography

Location: 678 Via Jacinto, Yuba City, California
Phone: (530) 674-9101
Website: http://www.hughstons.com
Email: Buddythomas@gmail.com

Hughston's Photography in Yuba City, California specializes primarily in wedding and engagement photography. They pride themselves in their almost exclusive use of photoshop and in the "constantly evolving" photography style Buddy describes as photojournalistic. Every shoot takes place on location, a place Buddy believes will be best after coupling your insight with his expertise. If you are concerned with blemishes, Hughston's will take care of simple issues with no charge; however, if the work takes more than a half hour, or the problem is "extravagant"-such as if a person needs to be photo-shopped in or out of the picture-there will be an additional fee. Prices range from $2400 to $4000 for the most popular package. Everything here is by appointment only.

Hughston's website is fantastic, but a tip: if you're viewing it using a PC, be sure to press F11 to pull up the full screen in order to see the entire page. ActiveX and AdobeFlash is required to view the site as well, but downloads are free and well worth it. His online gallery is breathtaking, and if you have any questions, email or call the studio. Buddy is friendly to be sure.

McNeal Photography (aka First Class Photography)

Location: 1805 Whispering Oaks Drive, Yuba City, California
Phone: (530) 844-3078
Website: http://web.me.com/mcnealphotography/web/Welcome.html
Email: GreatShots@comcast.net

Once known as First Class Photography, friends often suggested Danny and Karyn McNeal that, despite their photography being first class, a name change was in order. It wasn't until Stanislaus "Stan" Jarmolowicz, a notable Grass Valley custom jeweler for Marysville's Diamond Palace, sent a digital photo of the McNeals work to a friend in Paris, France that they decided it was time for the change. The French contact lauded the photo as the best he'd seen and the ring depicted went on to sell for $150,000. The Frenchman had only one suggestion: change the name of the studio!

And so they did.

Based in Yuba City, California, McNeal Photography features a beautiful website with an online FAQ and gallery page, not to mention the testimonial "Talk" page that will undoubtedly catch your attention.

First Class encourages each prospective client to view their online gallery to familiarize themselves with the studio's style Danny describes as a mix of traditional and artistic. Willing to work with the interests of the couple, they prefer in-studio pictures as lighting affords them a better opportunity to work with the varying faces of their clients to ensure the best possible result.

Sensitive to the financial struggle many currently endure, the couple has recently cut their prices. Wedding packages range from $1500-$3400 and portrait sessions range $180 to $295, including the sitting fee. If your heart is set on the album package, Danny and Karyn are more than willing to work with you. They understand these photographs hold immense sentimental value and will outlast everything else; they believe that in twenty years you should be able to look back and cherish the memory rather than wish you had done it differently.

Danny and Karyn are both photographers who will work in each session, eliminating the need for an unskilled "helper," making for a more fluid session. Indeed, having two photographers at weddings has often led their clients to comment they hardly noticed them at all. The McNeal's friendliness and willingness to work with each customer will undoubtedly help you get the best engagement and wedding photo for your money.

Priscilla's Photography Studio

Website: http://www.priscillasphotography.net/

Priscilla Welch has worked in her Yuba City, California studio for twenty-five years, working proudly under the motto "Never delegate personal service." Once an employee of Olan Mills Studio, Priscilla moved her services to Yuba City from the Marysville Peach Tree Mall after the flood of 1986. Her work is predominately made of referrals, and while clients can view their proofs online, she strongly encourages viewing them in the office to ensure they get what they want. Price ranges are not available until the consultation as she makes customized packages for the individual needs. If you are concerned with blemishes, she says she'll take care of them at no extra charge unless "they are bad," in which case you can plan on $25 for brushstrokes and $35 for reconstructions.

Proofs are available within an hour of the shoot and pick ups within three days. Walk-ins are welcome, but again she believes appointments make for a better experience. Her website is filled with information, including other special events she is happy to help you with. Priscilla Welch's friendliness, desire to work face-to-face with her clients, and twenty-five plus years of experience in the business may be just what you are looking for.

Studio 2D Photography (aka First Noele Photography)

Location: 229 Clark Avenue, Suite E, Yuba City, California with remote locations in Lincoln and Roseville.
Phone: (530) 751-1687
Website: http://firstnoelephotography.com/
Email: firstnoele@sbcglobal.net

Located in the Hillcrest Plaza in Yuba City, California, First Noele Photography has recently changed their name to Studio 2D Photography. Their goal is to "capture the people, activities, and emotions of the day" and they, too, understand that wedding and engagement photos will be a future heirloom to look back and reminisce on.

Specializing in contemporary-modern photos (a blend of formal and photojournalistic photography), Studio 2D leaves the decisions up to the couple for locations and what reflects them the best. Session fees begin at $30, packages at $150, and they are more than willing to create a photography package which will suit the needs of the individual couple. If she is available, walk-ins are welcome but most work is done by appointment and on location. Proofs of their photos are available online after two to three days and pick up is available within a week of the shoot. Blemishes are removed free of charge. If you're interested, visit her fantastic online gallery to get an idea of the quality of her work.

(pssst! Girls, she even does boudoir sessions if you'd like to send something a little special to your fiancé)
