Who says an old abandoned building has to stay that way?

That's certainly not the future the community had in mind for the old, vacant Engine 212 Firehouse in Williamsburg. This Friday, September 24 at 8:00 PM the community will celebrate the building and its new future.

Over the past few years, the community has lobbied to turn the building into a publicly owned community center, fit for all. Friday night the old firehouse will be open to the public and the site of an exhibit celebrating the spirit of Williamsburg through the years. A main focus will be the firehouse itself, through all of its glory days.

A collection of community artists will be displaying their work including Aslihan Demirtas and Nandina Bagchee. There will also be live performances by Alper Yilmar Electroacoustic and Crispus Attucks Ensemble.

Admission is free and the event will last from 8:00-10:00 PM at the Engine 212 Firehouse located at 134 Wythe Avenue (between North 8th and 8th streets).
