Englewood Family Matters: Indoor Winter Activities

Activities Plus Resources in Englewood, CO

Y! Lyn
Brrr! It's a chilly winter day in Englewood, CO. So, what indoor activities can you do to keep everyone occupied, warm, and happy? Or should I instead ask what things will keep the kids busy long enough to forget about their spats for a little while? Either way, here are some of our family's favorite indoor winter activities.

Sing and sip hot cocoa with candy canes. Music can be enjoyed by many. Even if you can't hum a tune, you are only with family members. Have fun and sing songs together for whatever holiday is coming up next. This can be done while preparing and sipping on hot cocoa. Candy Canes make great stirring sticks because as you stir, it enhances the flavor while melting.

Make homemade chicken soup together. This activity is filling to the stomach and the soul. There's nothing like a bowl of hearty homemade chicken soup on cold winter days. It may not snow as much in Inglewood as it does in the mountains. But it still gets pretty chilly. Keep everyone warm, cozy, and smiling. This is also a good time for family laughter and discussion.

Have a family movie marathon. Movie night! Whether you have your own collection or are grabbing some from the Englewood library or a video store, every family needs a night (or an entire day) like this. You can laugh, cry, and yell at the bad guys together while snuggling on the couch. Prepare your family's favorite snacks ahead of time so everyone can enjoy the movies. Warm pajamas and some holiday movies make a perfect indoor winter activity.

Break out the cards and board games. This is an oldie, but a goodie. Cards and board games will never be a thing of the past because they're easy and fun. Everyone can participate, laugh, and even tease each other some. This indoor winter activity doesn't need to be limited to family either. Invite some friends over and have a tournament. Ask everyone to wear their cozy clothes and slippers.

Get to know each other more. Have a family Q&A session to learn new things about one another. You'd be surprised what you do and don't know about each other. This can be both fun and funny and should definitely be on every family's list of indoor winter activities. One of our recent family Q&A sessions uncovered the fact that my 6 year old's favorite place to be is the fridge.
