University of Houston
The English M.A. Program at the University of Houston is an excellent choice for those who want to expand their horizons in terms of literary study, and it offers students an opportunity to focus on any one of several areas. These include Gay and Lesbian literature and gender studies, literatures of the Americas, regional studies, and a number of interdisciplinary opportunities that allow students to explore resources across the university. The program requires 36 hours of coursework and the mastery of a foreign language, making the University of Houston the perfect place to prepare to pursue a Ph.D. program in English.
Texas A&M University
The M.A. Program in English at Texas A&M University is very flexible, offering students the opportunity to pursue either a thesis or non-thesis option. The distribution requirements within the program ensure that students who enter have a thorough grounding in the various areas of literary study, to both broaden their intellectual horizons and prepare them for potential doctoral work. Courses offered in the program cover the full range of literary study, including various period literatures and many others.
University of Utah
The University of Utah offers a number of options in terms of pursuing a Masters Degree in English, including American Studies, British and American Studies, and several others. Most of the classes within the program are interdisciplinary in nature, thus ensuring that students have the opportunity to expand their horizons. In addition, students have the opportunity and ability to take courses in disciplines scattered across the university. Students must complete at least ten courses of three hours each, as well as mastering a foreign language.
