English Premier League Results Review

John Watson
Premier League action continued tonight as a number of teams played their second games of the season. Not playing tonight were Liverpool who were in France in Champions League action. More fireworks, tight matches, and late goalscoring drama were the order of the day in the games that were played. Here is a quick round-up of the results.

Tottenham 1 3 Everton
It's only 2 games into the season but alarm bells are already sounding for Tottenham. Tipped by many to be major title challengers they have fallen to defeat in their opening 2 games and their highly respected forward line is shooting blanks. Everton kept a 100% win record with goals from Lescott, Osman, and Stubbs with a goal by Gardners as Tottenham's consolation.

Birmingham 2 2 Sunderland
An exciting ding dong battle between 2 of the leagues newcomers which saw Sunderland salvage a precious point with yet another last minute goal. Birmingham twicw had the lead through goals by O'Connor and a Mcshane own goal whilst Sunderland struck back with gals by Chopra and the dramtic equalizer by Sturm John.

Fulham 2 1 Bolton
An early season clash between two teams that figure to be toiling at the end of the table this season saw Fulham gain 3 very valuable points. Boton had taken the early lead through Helguson but the Craven Cottage side hit back with 2 goals in a 3 minute span by Healy an Smertin. I have a feeling these early points are going to come in very handy at the end of the season.

Manchester City 1 0 Derby
City kept their perfect record as well as a second consecutive clean sheet with this victory over newly proted Derby County. Johnson was the scorer right on the half time whistle and I'm sure City mans are looking down the table at their cross city rivals with a little bit of smug satisfaction.

Portsmouth 1 1 Manchester United
The champions struggles continued today with a lacklustre performance ending in their second straight tie. Goals look to be hard to come by with Wayne Rooney out 2 month with a broken foot and most of their other strike force injured or not fully match fit. They cannot afford to lose ground early if they want to retain the title. Scholes gave United the lead but Mwaruwari scoring in his second consecutive game. The match exploded at the finish with players from either side being sent off including Cristiano Ronaldo of United which will further add to his teams scoring woes as he will receive an automatic one game suspension for the red card.

Reading 1 2 Chelsea
Another gutsy performance from Reading who stunned Manchester United on the opening weekend but this time they fell a little short. Reading took the lead on the half hour mark from a Bikey goal but Chelsea came out firing in the second half and went ahead through two quick goals by Lampard and last seasons top golscorere Didier Drogba. Reading, who had the best disciplinary record in the league last season had a player sent off for the second straight game when Cisse got his marching orders in the 72nd minute all but killing any chance of a comeback.

Wigan 1 0 Middlesbrough
An important home victory for Wigan who barely escaped the drop last season. Favorites among many to be one of the teams going down this season this will be a vital early boost to their season. The lone goal of the game came from the boot of Sibierski in the 55th minute.
