As entertainment for your tea party, for any age, male or female, why not make some traditional English "crackers?"
YOU WILL NEED:
Decorative paper such as gift wrap
Craft glue
Cracker snaps from a craft store
Glitter, sequins, or small stickers (optional)
Paper towel rolls
Candy, trinkets, or other small gifts
Purchased or hand-written fortune slips
Fancy ribbon
1. Cut the paper into a rectangle, about 11" by 16".
2. Put the cracker snap inside the paper towel roll, making sure it sticks out of both ends.
(If you have trouble finding the cracker snaps, you can use thin wooden strips that will break easily.)
3. Put the candy, small gifts, and fortune slips inside the roll.
4. Put glue down one side of the tube.
5. Lay the tube on the decorative paper, making sure it is evenly centered.
6. Being careful not to spill anything out of the tube, wrap the paper around it and glue the ends of the paper lightly.
7. If you like, at this point you can add glitter, sequins, or other decorations to your cracker.
8. Now tie both ends of the paper securely with the ribbon, twisting the paper on each end.
Make a cracker for each of your guests. Have two guests take an end of each cracker and pull. The cracker should "crack" and spill its contents amid general laughter.
Another charming thing to do at a Tea Party is to make souvenir silhouettes.
YOU WILL NEED:
Sheets of white paper, about 18" by 24"
Black and white construction paper
A bright, aimable flashlight or desk lamp
Masking tape
Scissors
Pencil
Glue
1. Tape a white sheet of paper one at a time to a wall.
2. Seat your first guest about a foot in front of the paper, so that her head is in profile in the
center of the paper.
3. Darken the room and shine the light directly at the head of your sitter, until you can clearly see
the shadow of her profile.
4. Carefully trace around the shadow of the profile.
5. Remove the paper and cut out your traced profile.
6. Place the white pattern on the black paper, carefully trace around it (you may want to use a white
pencil or crayon,) and cut it out.
7. Glue the black silhouette to a white piece of paper, write the name and date on the back, and frame.
Make a silhouette for each guest. These will be treasured for years to come.
