Enjoy a Cheap Easter Holiday with Your Family

Yo P
Like almost every holiday, the Easter Holiday has become a mass marketed consumer-driven credit card smack down event. But it doesn't have to be; you can find ways to make Easter cheap and your family happy if you follow some of these steps.

1. Scale down the Easter Holiday egg hunt.

Searching for chocolate eggs in the morning is one of the best parts of the Easter Holiday. Your kids get to use their inquisitive brains to try and figure out where the Easter bunny might have hidden the chocolaty treats and they get to run around and throw things in a basket. Taking that fun away from them would almost be cruel-but buying all that chocolate to hide can get expensive and it's no way to keep Easter cheap. This year, instead of hiding a bunch of chocolate, hide just one chocolate egg but leave a series of clues for your children to find that will lead them to the hidden stash. Their first clue can be handed to them and each clue should lead them to another until they finally find the prize. By doing this you get hours of fun for a fraction of the price-and something your kids will remember forever.

2. Skip the pre-cooked Easter Holiday ham.

A large ham is the centerpiece of many tables on Easter, but if you want to make Easter cheap you may need to find a different cut of meat to eat during the family celebration. Ham is a cost-effective meat if you can buy it large and make it yourself but if you are used to buying honey glazed ham that's already been cooked for you, you could be sinking a small fortune into your Easter Holiday meal. Instead, you can attempt to cook the ham yourself or, if you don't feel confident doing that, you can always buy some ham steak for your family to enjoy. That way, everyone still enjoys the traditional ham but you keep Easter cheap.

3. Skip the expensive Easter Holiday baskets.

The Easter Holiday is really about spending time together as a family, not buying gifts that require you to work more hours in order to pay for and the trick to keeping Easter cheap isn't necessarily about finding a cheap replacement for all your old traditions. Instead, it's more about finding new inexpensive and more personal traditions that keep Easter cheap but meaningful. One of these traditions could be a letter to each of your children that tells them how much they mean to you. This is something that will be treasured long after a plastic basket filled with toys or candy will be. It's also a gift that could make a difference in how your child feels about him or herself and that really lets them know just how loved they are.
