The History, Shopping, and Other Things Will Keep You Wanting to Come Back to Charleston Time After Time
Charleston offers much to do for the common traveler. If it's your first visit to the city, you'll want to embrace as much culture as you possibly can. History seems to call out to those who visit Charleston. The downtown is paved in cobblestone and anyone can take a ride on a one or two horse trolley. Fort Sumter, the sight of the Civil War's first shot, sits just a couple of miles from downtown Charleston. There's also the well known Rainbow Row, a line of colored homes that stand on the battery in front of the Charleston harbor. They're an excellent front door to a city that offers a history as vibrant as their colors.
While in Charleston, tourists will want to head down to King Street to take in some of the excellent shopping. There's an upscale boutique at almost every block, including famed men's shop Dumas and Sons. There, men can pick out some of the best clothes in the South. There are more than forty shops dedicated to women's wear and women can certainly find something to keep them occupied during their time in the city's downtown.
If you want to go out on the beach, Folly Beach is not far from downtown Charleston. After a ten minute ride or so, tourists can be down at Folly Beach soaking up the sun. This is a popular beach for local college students and families alike, as everyone seems to co-exist in this setting.
Charleston has much to see and many great things to take in. If you love history, then it's a great trip to take. If there's someone in your family who likes shopping, then it's certainly a good chance for them to run up a bill on the credit card. There are even some excellent restaurants, including local favorite Red's on Shem Creek. Downtown, most folks love to eat the fish at Hyman's Seafood.
When you visit Charleston, be sure to take in as much as you can. This city has a history that seems to preach to its visitors. Take from it everything that you can and it's sure to be a rewarding experience.
