Enjoy an Independent Film at the Mayan Theatre in Denver, Colorado

The Mayan Theatre is one of the best places to catch an independent film in Denver. The winner of numerous awards, this theater is a truly beautiful historic building. This Art Deco Mayan Revival theater opened for business in the early 1930s, and was a place where patrons could watch first run movies. Eventually, the Mayan closed for business, and sat empty for decades. A group of concerned locals, "Friends of the Mayan", saved the Mayan Theatre from the demolition crew in the 1980s. It was ultimately remodeled for a couple million dollars, and is now run by the Landmark Theatres. Today, the Mayan Theatre is one of three remaining movie theaters in the United States designed in the Art Deco Mayan Revival style.

Today, the Mayan Theatre is home to three screens. The original theater holds a single large screen, while the upstairs has been converted to house two small screens. The Mayan Theatre is also home to a bar and cafe. Like many independent movie theaters today, you can enjoy an adult beverage while you watch a movie. Located in the central downtown area, you can catch a movie after a day of shopping and checking out the local art galleries. After watching a film, go for a walk on Broadway or grab a bite to eat in the restaurant filled Baker district. Click here to purchase your tickets in advance. The Mayan Theatre is located at 110 Broadway in downtown Denver. You can park for free behind the theater after 5 pm on weekdays, and all day on the weekends. There is also a free lot at 120 Lincoln Street.
