Enjoy Super Bowl Snacks Without Gaining Weight

Healthy Super Bowl Snacks

Debbie H.
Watching the Super Bowl doesn't have to mean eating lots and lots of junk food and food filled with fat and calories. Here are a few ideas on what to serve during your Super Bowl party that are both delicious and yummy at the same time.

Chips and Salsa

Buy chips that are baked. You will save on fat and calories and they taste just the same. For the salsa, make your own. Use tomatoes, onions, cilantro, a little lime juice, and a jalapeno pepper if you like it spicy. Mix all ingredients in a blender, but only for a few seconds. If you don't have a blender you can chop all ingredients by hand and mix together. Fresh salsa not only tastes great, but it's good for you because it's made of all natural ingredients.

Popcorn

Everyone enjoys snacking on popcorn while watching TV, but serve the unsalted, unbuttered kind. You can add a little cheese flavored topping to give it some flavor if you'd like. Fresh, hot popcorn tastes great and doesn't need all the grease from butter.

Drinks

Beer and other alcoholic beverages might sound appetizing, but they are filled with empty calories. Enjoy one beer, but try some of these drinks the rest of the game. Home aide lemonade not only tastes great, but is also good for you. Add a little lime or orange juice, too to give it a little twist of flavor. Smoothies are very popular. Take out the blender and mix yogurt, milk, and fresh or frozen fruit for a delicious smoothie. The possibility of smoothies are endless.

Dessert

You can still have dessert and have a healthy super bowl party. Strawberry shortcake is a delicious dessert and low fat. Make or buy angel food cake. Add fresh strawberries and fat free whipped cream on top. Another low fat, tasty dessert is jello jigglers. You can even be creative and cut the jello into shapes of footballs to be festive.

Moderation is the key. You can snack while watching the game, just don't go overboard. There are many healthy snacks that can be served that are full of flavor. Your guests will appreciate your effort in serving healthy, yummy snacks.
