Dog training tips

Let's begin by taking your dog for a walk. Exercise is an essential part of an animal's life just like us humans. In a dog's mind there are two positions within the pack, followers and the leader. Their can be only one leader. Understanding of this will make turning your best friend easier. Your dog should always be behind or beside you, you should be the first to go out the door, and the first to go back in the door.

Selecting the proper leash for what you're trying to accomplish is very important as well. A short leash is best, attaching it high on the neck, just behind the ears will yield the best results. The lower portion of the neck is the toughest, and usually were most folks attached the leash. Just behind the years, on the higher part of the neck is the most tender area of the neck. less effort is required for correcting the dogs and better results yielded.

Each dog has specific exercise requirements. Morning walks have always shown the best results in my personal experience. This is not to say that taking walks during other times of the day is not as good, as we all have different schedules and dogs love to walk regardless of what time of day it is. Proper exercise will make disciplining your best friend much easier.

After our walk is complete I will reward my best friend in some way. Most often, recreation time where the dog has time to play, go to the bathroom, or just relax for a moment. It is imperative that you decide when play time is over. Always keep in mind that you have to be the leader.

As a good leader, your job is not over when you get back home. Remember that you are the first back in the door, if you are uncertain about the specific exercise requirements for your dog ask your veterinarian. Another important aspect to keep in mind is cleaning up after your best friend. I am certain your neighbors will also be appreciative of this.

There are a few questions we can ask ourselves about our walks to improve ourselves as leaders. To start with, are our walks long enough to satisfy the dogs exercise requirements. I am certain your dog will appreciate any time you spend taking a walk. If at all possible taking two 30 minute walks and day would be ideal.

If you and your best friend have a higher level of energy, you may want to give rollerblading or bicycling a try. Jogging or running is a great way of burning more energy in less time. Simply find what works best for you and your best friend, and stick to it.

Dogs often get excited when they see you get the leash, in anticipation of the walk. Make sure your dog is: calm before attaching a leash. Not only does is established respect, it identifies you as the leader. being calm and submissions establishes your dog as a follower, and you as the leader.

A few things to keep in mind are this, do not feed the dog before your walk, make sure that you're the first out of the door, and make sure the dog is: calm and setting down before you open the door. Keep a short leash, always clean up after your dog, and remain calm at all times. By first establishing the leadership role, training your best friend will be much easier. I hope that your time spent with your best friend is exciting and enjoyable for both you and your best friend.
