Enough

Thomas Cleveland Lane
So very few of them are righteous calls
Upon a people's honor, blood and strain.
So many stem from reasons cruel and false
Or naked lust for monetary gain.

The leaders by themselves in private talks
Decide the people's fate from way on high.
Then, very soon, the poor man quickly walks
To places where he'll get to kill and die.

With pious prayers for victory as they go,
The high and mighty take the greatest pride
In telling all the people far below,
The god they pray to will be on their side.

Cast not your stone upon the luckless whore.
Save it, rather, for the dogs of war.

Wow, Thomas . . . great minds think alike! Wonder if "break a leg" applies to writing, but I'll assume it does metaphorically : ).
