Rosa Hayes
If you are entering into a neighborhood yard contest then you are going to want to know the best yard tips that you can possibly get. The contest for each neighborhood yard contest is different but most of them want basically the same thing when it comes to determining the winners of the neighborhood yard contest. The tips that I have provided will offer you advice on the contest rules, small yards, and big yards, trees that are in your yard, what makes a yard unique, and many other useful tips that will help you to make the most out of your neighborhood yard contest.

Tips for Entering a Neighborhood Yard Contest: Know the Rules

This one is an easy one but you would be surprised at how many people don't even know the rules for entering their neighborhood yard contest. Most neighborhood yard contest has a due date and certain criteria that your yard must meet. Follow the rules and do your best to keep your yard looking the best as you possibly can.

Tips for Entering a Neighborhood Yard Contest: Yard Design

The design of your yard is very important. The reason for a neighborhood yard contest is to get the neighborhood looking as best as it can and getting the community involved in keeping their yard looking nice. Designing your yard doesn't mean that you must pay someone to design it for you. My mother designed her yard by looking at gardening catalogs and then choosing her own colors.

Tips for Entering a Neighborhood Yard Contest: The Color

The color of your yard is very important in a neighborhood yard contest. The color should be a rich green. If you want your yard to be the greenest possible then you are going to want to work at it. Fertilizers are a great way of giving your yard a rich color. If you are strapped for cash then you can take the grass that you mowed and lay it on top of the fresh grass, once it dies and starts to whither away it will fertilize your yard. If you choose to use the old grass as a fertilizer make sure that you do not do this during the time when the winner will be chosen since your yard won't look as pretty with dead grass on top of it.

Tips for Entering a Neighborhood Yard Contest: Clean landscapes

This is a must for anyone entering into a neighborhood yard contest. The landscape should be clean and cut nicely. Getting a clean landscape is easy with a little bit of work. Things like tree limbs, trash, etc., should be removed from the yard.

Tips for Entering a Neighborhood Yard Contest: Your Home

Believe it or not your home is also part of the contest. Your home should be clean and well kept on the outside. If your house needs a good painting then give it one. Also consider washing all the marks off of your house.

Tips for Entering a Neighborhood Yard Contest: A crowded yard

I know that a lot of people like decals in their yard and they can make your yard look pretty but if you use too many yard decals it can make your yard look too crowded. The same goes for flowers and shrubs; you shouldn't crowd your yard with them.

Tips for Entering a Neighborhood Yard Contest: Roses

Roses can make any yard look colorful and you can have different types of roses. Rose shrubs are a nice choice for a yard that is small. A rose shrub can be placed next to your home or by a walkway.

Tips for Entering a Neighborhood Yard Contest: Big yards

There is nothing better than a big yard to play around in but with a big yard also comes the need to do more work. If you really want to play your yard up a bit, you can add little things like a fountain or a bird bath to your yard to make it look delightful.

Tips for Entering a Neighborhood Yard Contest: Small Yards

A small yard won't give you much room to play with but this doesn't mean that you can't win a neighborhood yard contest. A small yard should be kept nice and simple. There are many places such as Lowe's that sales small items for small yards. A bird bath in the center of your yard could be a nice ornament or you could a flower bed alongside your house.

Tips for Entering a Neighborhood Yard Contest: Trees

I love trees and I really love what you can do with them. I don't have a tree in my yard that I now own but I remember when I was a child and our yard had many trees in them. My dad was always out in the yard working on it and he planted a flowerbed that went around every tree. The flowerbeds each had a different stone to hold the flowers in place and many gardening stores sale these.

The best advice that I could give anyone who is entering into a neighborhood yard contest is to keep it nice but keep it simple. Sometimes the most unique things are the things that you can do that cost the less. Use your imagination to create a one of a kind yard and I wish you the best of luck.
