Entertainer Tom Jones Says He Appreciates Music of All Kinds Now

Mary Thatcher
Remember Las Vegas fixture Tom Jones, known for his top 10 hit "It's Not Unusual" in 1964 and "What's New Pussycat?" in 1965? Even though Tom is now 70 years old and still going strong on stage, he recently told The Daily Record that even though his music style is from another era, he has grown to appreciate newer music that younger generations are creating, like hip hop and independent music. Having recorded and performed live songs from every genre imaginable, Tom's statement is credible enough for fans of all ages. Considered to be a sex symbol after the style of Elvis Presley, Tom Jones also took to wearing white shirts on stage, unbuttoned far enough to reveal his chest. The tight pants did not hurt his stage image either. While the majority of Tom's fans are in fact female, he has enough male fans who wish they had the sex appeal he himself has.

Tom remains physically in shape from belting out all of those great songs. To celebrate his new found appreciation of new forms of music, he is releasing a new disc titled "Praise and Blame" which hits the music stores today. Contact Music reports that one of the songs on the disc is a cover version of John Lee Hooker's "Burning Hell", a rockabilly song that Tom Jones could easily transform into an energetic hit. Tom admits having a lot of fun recording the songs for "Praise and Blame" and no doubt he will rise to the top of the charts once again. After all, why shouldn't he? He still has the sex appeal he did when he was 30 years old. It is not at all hard to imagine young females tossing panties and bras at him during one of his fabulous performances.

Born in Wales on June 7, 1940, Tom Jones discovered he was a natural stage presence at an early age. At 23 he was the lead singer for a group called Tommy Scott and the Senators. His career quickly took off, and with his robust baritone, soon found himself touring in addition to recording. He sold over 150 million records over the world between 1964 and 2010.(1)

Tom was awarded the OBE in 1999 and successively knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2006, which officially makes him Sir Tom Jones. I don't know how fitting he'd look in knight's armor on stage, but he can still get away with that unbuttoned shirt and tight pants at his present age. Not too many entertainers can do that and still be Mr. Sex Appeal.
