Entertaining Questions

RipDiction
The entertainment industry often leaves the viewing audience in limbo with unanswered questions as the media concludes. Sometimes this is done in an effort to make the audience contemplate what has been viewed reaching their own conclusion interpretations. There are many questions that sometimes cannot be easily answered as the band Looking Glass demonstrates in 1972 with the release of their hit single Brandy. Did Brandy ever find a husband?? (Brandy by Looking Glass, 1972).

Bob Marley sings out innocence in his 1973 single release I Shot the Sheriff. Guilt is accepted and admitted throughout the song that he did in fact shoot the sheriff although the murder of the deputy is never answered. To this day the act remains a mystery. Who did shoot the Deputy?? (I Shot the Sheriff by Bob Marley, 1973).

Originally The Sweets Company of America is better known now as Tootsie Roll Industries created Tootsie Roll Pops in 1931. The inventor, Brandon Perry an employee of the company, invented the candy in 1930. The commercial for tootsie roll pops has inspired possibly one of the most pondered commercial product questions in American history: How many Lick's does it take to get to the Tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?? (Commercial, circa 1966).

Song writers know this method of questioning ponderous as well as lacing many a lyrical tune with hanging questions that motivate the general population toward an answer. Through experimentation we count the licks while consuming a tootsie roll pop or wonder who really did shoot the deputy. The Beatles boasted of the gainful wish to become a paperback writer but left us wondering if the songs character actually did acquire the aspiration. Did our character within ever become a paperback writer?(Paperback Writer by The Beatles, 1966).

Some commercialized media did not pose a question, but instead left us on a cliff hanging with questions never to be answered. Beginning with a simple "sounding out" of the popular alcoholic beverage named Budweiser 3D graphic generated frogs entertained us toward buying the product. The story expanded as other animal kindom characters were introduced into the story line of the long running commercial through frog's, lizards, birds, and one crazy ferret. By the campaign's end 2006 there was no clear winner of this lackadaisical feud. Ferrets and Frogs and Lizards, oh my! Who won the feud? (Budweiser Commercial circa 2006).

Of course there are many forms of media that you just have to wonder: "What would the Coyote do day to day once he actually caught and ate the Roadrunner?" (The Bugs Bunny and Roadrunner Show, 1962-1985).

In closing, Leave it Beaver initiated ponderous thoughts of wonderment through the title of the popular TV show itself asking: "What would happen if we DID leave it to Beaver?" (TV Situation Comedy Leave it to Beaver, 1957-1963)
