The exterior of Enzor Lane Tea Room is replete with wraparound porches and intricate fretwork. Once a visitor to the tea room enters its foyer, they are greeted with warmth and old style southern charm. The house maintains its high ceilings, mantels and fireplaces. There's the typical long entryway that divides the house into two sides that was a popular architectural theme. The décor consists of period furniture and fine china and crystal dishes from early times until now. The restroom is actually the original bathroom with the claw footed bathtub and decorated with a few eighteenth century commodes.
When I walked through the door at Enzor Lane Tea Room the other day, I was surrounded by warmth and elegance. I gave myself a quick tour of each of the front rooms and the bathroom. The tea room is two rooms joined by a double paned-glass door that seats 16 in each room at four tables. The round tables are covered in tablecloth. A fresh flower occupying a tea cup and saucer graces each one. The low lighting adds to the ambiance.
My meal at Enzor Lane Tea Room consisted of Enzor Lane 's Crepe, made with chicken, sour cream, cream of chicken soup, dill and Enzor Lane 's special cheese sauce. A crystal bowl of fruit accompanied my crepe as well as a glass of tea. My server brought the crepe piping hot on a Knight Pe Tettau fine china plate. At first when I dug into the crepe, I didn't know there was dill in this dish. That changed after it cooled a bit, and the dill stood out on my palette as an after taste.
Desserts for the day included Grilled Pound Cake and a sweet variety of crepes in Chocolate and Strawberry.
The home that Enzor Lane Tea Room is located in belonged to Henry E. and Noni Enzor. It was probably built by native architect Lane Enzor. He was responsible for Troy 's first movie house - Enzor Theater, and the Troy Bank and Trust building.
My meal at Enzor Lane Tea room cost over $13. It is probably not the place for everyday fare. It is a place for a special getaway for an individual or couple, or a group. The owners open the Tea Room for reservations and catering special occasions. It is a one-of-a-kind experience in Troy , Alabama .
