Epcot's Wand for Sale on Ebay

Lady Dee
To many people news that the wand around Epcot's spaceship Earth or the golf ball as it also is known as was coming down, delighted them. To many purist the wand which was originally with 2000 on it was for the Millennium celebration, then 2000 was changed to the words "epcot", was just an eye sore. When the news was announced, many forums started " wand watch" threads and posted photos of the removal. To some it was also seen as a way to earn money, as pieces of the infamous wand have gone up for sale on eBay recently.

The first auction entitled : "DISNEY EPCOT ACTUAL SPACESHIP EARTH WAND REFLECTOR PART" started an July 29th and ended August 2. The description of this auction:

ACTUAL PART OF EPCOTS SPACESHIP EARTH WAND.
This is a 4 square piece of the reflectors of the beloved wand from Epcot
As the wand is finally being taken down, we bring you the last chance to remember it forever.
This item would make a great memento as Epcots 25th birthday approaches.

The first bid was $4.00, when the auction ended on August 2 the final bid and winner paid $202.50 plus 3.00 shipping. For 4 little pieces that look like confetti. One the sites who was keeping a wand watch thread the auction was mentioned and many were appalled that someone would even sell pieces of the much hated thing. But at least 23 people wanted a piece of history.

In past auctions, where pieces of attractions are sold from Disney, they have gone for huge amounts, take Mr. toad's Wild ride, for example, many adored the ride and were very upset at it's closing, so hen the ride vehicles and pieces of scenery from the ride were auctioned off on eBay, people paid thousands just to own a pieces of the beloved ride.

This particular auction wasn't getting the enthusiasm like past auctions, the seller is holding off selling any more pieces, because he thinks it is because part of the wand is still up and it isn't gone completely yet. Although the price was nice, it did not go as high as the seller thought he would get. He is hoping when the wand is completely removed, with the 25th Anniversary coming up the pieces will go much higher. He isn't concerned about the purist, who think it just plain tacky.
