When I can afford it I buy the best, which is of course Johnson and Johnson. However, when I can't swing that, I choose Equate Aloe Vera & Vitamin E Hypoallergenic Baby Powder. It is comparable to Johnson's Baby Powder With Cornstarch.
This Equate powder is very gentle. I know this to be true because I have ultra sensitive skin. There are a lot of powders full of fragrances and scents that my skin can't handle. Equate Aloe Vera & Vitamin E Hypoallergenic Baby Powder is never a problem. It is completely allergy free; a bonus. It is also dermatologist and pediatrician tested.
Ingredients include cornstarch, aloe vera leaf extract, fragrance, tricalcium phosophate and vitamin E. These are the same ingredients found in some other baby powders.
Here is my summary review:
Effectiveness: 5 stars. This powder promises to absorb dampness and pull it away from the skin so it won't get chaffed. That is particularly important for delicate baby bottoms. Equate Aloe Vera & Vitamin E Hypoallergenic Baby Powder delivers on that promise 100%. It soothes chaffed skin and promotes faster healing.
Smell: 4 stars. Although it doesn't smell exactly like the baby powder I used on my children, it is close enough. It smells like a newborn, which is like a little piece of heaven.
Ease of use: 4 stars. The powder comes in a squeezable 15 oz bottle with holes for dispensing the powder as desired. It does fly into the air a bit when you first push on it but all baby powders do.
Reputation: 5 stars. The Equate brand has developed a good reputation over the years. That is because it delivers quality products at a lower cost. It is no different here.
Variety: 4 stars. Equate also makes a simple Mild Baby Powder.
Packaging: 5 stars. The Equate Aloe Vera & Vitamin E Hypoallergenic Baby Powder squeeze bottle is white with a baby blue top. The front label is done in blue and pale green with a picture of a teddy bear on the front and a baby print background. Lettering is navy blue. The Equate label is at the top of the label. The back label contains important information about the powder.
Ease of storage: 3 stars. The bottle is a little large at 7.75" by 3" by 2". It can be a bit of a challenge to find a place to put the powder. It doesn't fit easily into a standard medicine cabinet. However, it will fit under most sinks and bathroom or utility closets.
Availability: 3 stars. Equate is a generic brand distributed by Wal-Mart. It isn't available in other stores at this time.
Green Factor: 5 stars. The squeeze bottle can be refilled with powder or used for other similar products.
Price: 5 stars. This powder is about one-third less than the leading baby powder on the market today. It generally retails for under $2.25.
Final rating: 4.3 stars.
RATING SCALE:
5 stars = outstanding
4 stars = good
3 stars = average
2 stars = below average
1 star = poor
