Equate Ultra Weight Loss Shake

Laura Hickey
Recently Wal*Mart has been running commercials claiming that staying healthy costs less when purchasing diet related items at Wal*Mart. With bikini season around the corner and sticking to a tight budget, I decided to give Wal*Mart's Equate Original and Ultra weight loss shakes a try. They are located in the diet pills/Slim Fast area. The packaging and style is the same of the competition Slim Fast Optima but costing around $1.00 to $2.00 less per 6 pack of shakes.

The Ultra has less sugar and fewer calories than that of the original weight loss shake. It comes in three flavors of french vanilla, creamy chocolate and strawberries and cream. Both Ultra and Original have 24 essential vitamins and minerals with 50% of the daily needed calcium in each shake. It does suggest if you are pregnant, nursing, wanting to lose more than 30 pounds or have existing health problems to consult a doctor before starting any diet plan. Also the same suggestion goes if you are under 18 years of age.

The directions are to shake well before opening and serve chilled or over ice. Take note that these shakes taste completely awful if they are lukewarm. Be sure to refrigerate any unused portions. For weight loss the idea is to replace one or two meals with a shake and then eat healthy throughout the rest of the day. Or use it as a snack to avoid giving into temptation such as a chocolate sugary dessert.

I tried for 10 days to replace one meal at lunchtime with one of the shakes and exercise 5 times a week. It's a good idea to keep two or three flavors around in the house to avoid becoming tired of the same flavor. The French vanilla flavor has a slight taste to that of canned vanilla pudding. Towards the end of the can there is a gritty texture that gets in between the teeth. Unfortunately only one weight loss shake is not enough as the whole ten days I felt hungry until dinner time. I tried another week with exercise but instead ate healthy and didn't consume any of the shakes. The result was I didn't lose more weight with Equate's Weight Loss Shakes.

I did find one good aspect for these shakes. They are inexpensive and help with the nighttime dessert cravings. Instead of reaching for a slice or two of cheesecake, grab one of these shakes to avoid putting on extra calories. Take note one weight loss product may help work for one person and not for another. It's a good idea to always ask your doctor if it's safe for you to go on a diet program.
