Equipment for a DSLR Camera

If you have an interest in photography, you are probably going to buy a DSLR(digital single lens reflex) camera at some point. But what other types of equipment will you need for this type of camera? In this article, I will give some examples of the type of equipment you will need for your DSLR.

One of the most important pieces of equipment you can buy is a decent camera bag. The camera bag will protect your camera from dust, moisture, accidental drops; etc. As for the size of the camera bag, it just depends on how much equipment you will carry.

If you're just going to use one lens and a few smaller pieces of equipment, then buy a smaller camera bag. However, if you use several different lenses and lots of additional equipment then buy a larger bag. Here's an example of a large camera bag.

What about lenses? There are a variety of lenses to choose from, and you may want just one or maybe more. Personally, I carry two. A macro lens for close up shots, and a telephoto zoom lens for long range pictures. Other photographers may carry even more lenses; it's all a matter of what you're going to take pictures of.

Don't forget about memory. You will probably need at least one gigabyte of memory for your camera. It will all depend on how many megapixels your camera has, or what your quality settings are on. Here's an example. An eight megapixel camera will hold about eighty pictures with a one megabyte card, if you use the maximum quality level. However, if you lower the camera's quality settings then the memory card will hold more pictures. So it's a trade off of quality versus quantity.

Will you need an extra battery? I suspect that the majority of people who use DSLR cameras probably have an extra battery or two because these are the types of people who love to take pictures. After all, why would you spend so much money on lenses and other accessories if you're not going to take lots of pictures? Even if you don't take that many pictures, it can't hurt to have an extra battery. You never know when your main battery might fail or be misplaced.

In order to keep your lenses free of dust and other substances, you will need to keep them clean. There are two ways to do this. You can either purchase a special cleaning product for your lenses, or you can buy a filter for them. I prefer to buy a filter because it's easier to clean than your camera lens. It's also a lot easier on the nerves because if you break or damage the filter, you only lose ten dollars or so. But if you damage or break your lens, then you have just lost a lot more money.

Finally, you may want to consider purchasing a tripod. Tripods are relatively inexpensive pieces of equipment that will keep your camera still for you, which will help to eliminate blurriness from your photos. Tripods are especially useful for night shots, close up shots, and for people with shaky hands. I've seen seen small tripods for around seven dollars, and the bigger ones will usually set you back about thirty bucks or so.

If you're going to try your hand at photography, it's important that you purchase the right type of equipment. This equipment can be very important in protecting both your camera and your sanity. So be sure and think everything through.
